The robots, i.e chat-bots were created to learn how to negotiate by recreating the human trading and bartering system. These chatbots were named Alice and Bob and were meant to have a conversation about the trading. But instead of communicating in English they started to learn their own bizarre form of language. This is why the researchers had to shut down their systems.
