How to Quickly Disable Touch ID on iPhone Running iOS 11

Emergency SOS is an important life-saving feature in iOS 11, which allows you to quickly make an Emergency call just by pressing the power Off button five times in succession. Besides, it also allows you to quickly disable Touch ID on your iPhone.

So if you ever, unfortunately, find yourself in a situation when you think you are not safe, you can temporarily turn off Touch ID to prevent your enemies from taking undue advantage of it. May be, they would forcibly use your finger to unlock your device and steal your confidential information stored on your iPhone.

How to Temporarily Turn off Touch ID on your iPhone

Note: One thing you need to know that if you have enabled the option to automatically call Emergency SOS when ON/OFF button is pressed five times in rapid succession, this process won't work. Hence, you must disable this auto call functionality before going ahead with the process. Head over to Settings app → Emergency SOS → and turn off the switch next to Auto Call.

Step #1. Simply click the On/Off (sleep/wake) button five times consecutively.

Step #2. Now, you get four options:

  • Slide to Power Off
  • Medical ID
  • Emergency SOS
  • Cancel

Now, you have two easy ways to disable Touch ID.

  • Simply tap on the Cancel button
  • Or, make an emergency call.

Now, you will have to enter your passcode to re-enable Touch ID on your device.

Wrap up:

Earlier turning off Touch ID was a very complicated process as you had to restart your iOS device or scan the wrong finger multiple times or stop using it for a few days until it was temporarily disabled by itself. From that perspective, it's a very user-friendly feature, isn't it? That apart, it further empowers the functionality of emergency SOS feature.
