Can E-Cigars Set-Off Smoke Detectors?

This question has boggled many vapers or e-cigar smokers especially newbies. Well, I asked myself the same question which made me do some research about it. And actually, the answer is quite confusing at first. But later, I've finally found the answer. It is both yes and no. What do I mean by both? How is it possible you ask? Well, the answer lies in what particular type of Smoke detectors/ fire alarms. Usual house Smoke Detectors that utilizes an ionized sensor do not get triggered by the vapor in e-cigs. Like this type:

However, industrial smoke detectors and newer smoke detectors that utilizes a 'photoelectric' sensor (light beam) will most probably be set-off by the e-cigs. A photoelectric smoke detector senses the obscuration of light and not carbon build up.

Bottom-line:
Older smoke detectors that uses ions sensors probably could be fooled by vapor. But newer smoke alarms are set-off by the vapor in e-cigs. If you doubt me, then you can try it out yourself, at your own risk. lol.
