Amazon have now brought their Echo calling functionality to Fire tablets in the UK.
Alexa Calling and Messaging is now available on your Fire tablet. Just ask Alexa to call, send a message, or video call anyone with other compatible Fire tablet, supported Echo device or the Alexa app. You can also connect quickly with your closest family and friends by asking Alexa to drop in on other Echo devices.
Of course, to make full use of this, you have to sync your contacts with the Alexa app on your fire tablet, just as you have to on the Echo device. It will then allow you to use voice to send messages, but also place calls directly.
Using the fire tablet, you should be able to place video calls using this functionality too.
Check your settings in your Alexa app on your fire tablet to set this up and allow / deny permissions around dropping in and accepting calls.
Dropping in
One way this might be useful for Echo owners is the drop-in feature that it also includes. You could use your fire tablet to ‘drop-in’ on the kitchen – placing a quick call to your echo when you’re in the other room for example. For details of how this works (along with other related calling features) see here.
