Let’s take a root Domain as YTECHB.com which is further categorized into many subdomains such as android.ytechb.com, windows.ytechb.com, and mac.ytechb.com.

In the image, the domain ytechb.com is further categorized into three subdomains. All the three domains will come under one DNS zone. And similarly for android.ytechb.com which is classified in other two low-level sub-domains which will come under another DNS Zone.

Note: We can not create a zone which contains nougat.android.ytechb.com and mac.ytechb.com together because they are not contiguous.

How DNS Zone Work?

DNS Zones helps to group the domains and sub-domains for the easy data storage. And each zone has its own zone file. So now you have understood how Zones are divided in the hierarchy and How DNS Zone work. And you may be now wondering What is the Zone file. Below you will find about Zone files.

What is Zone File?

As you have already read that each zone has its own zone file. The zone file is the actual text file which represents the DNS Zone. The zone file contains all the records of the specific Domains in a particular Zone. The Zone file contains various information related to DNS zones like the mapping of Domain names and IP addresses. Zone file holds only one record in one line in text file.

DNS Zone file always contains the SOA (start of authority) section which contains important information such as contact information for the zone administrator. How to flush DNS cache?

Flushing DNS cache is nothing but it is the clearing DNS cache from different systems. What is DNS Zone Transfer?

DNS Zone transfer is the process of copying the changed data from primary DNS zone to the Secondary DNS zone. This usually happens when the administrator made some changes in master Zone or Primary zone. A copy of every update or changes in Master zone is required to send to the slave zone or secondary zone. It is required because if the Master Zone goes down the slave zone can cover it.
