Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite Appearance/Design

As shown above, Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite comes with the same package as the Redmi Series, with all red color. The model number Redmi 6 Pro is printed on the front of the box with big highlights to 6 and the MI logo is printed on the upper corner of the box. There is a small blurry outline in the box, which makes it possible to recognize Redmi 6 Pro at a glance.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite is equipped with a 5.84-inch full-screen with the resolution of 2280 x 1080 and the special thing about the screen is its notch. See the picture above. It is worthy of praise that Xiaomi has been able to fit the notch-display in budget mobile phones making it one of the most affordable notch-display phone.

The phone looks attractive in design. The screen ratio of 19:9 adds beauty to the appearance and increasing the screen to body ratio to 79.5%. The user can enjoy a good visual experience with the large screen while holding it with one hand.

In addition, the screen comes with the density of 432 ppi and provides features like sunscreen, luminous screen, eye protection mode and intelligent environment adaptation mode. The overall experience provided by Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite screen is quite good.

If you look at the picture above, you can see that the back frame adopts the same old-fashioned three-stage structure of Redmi Series Phone, of which, the upper and lower parts are made up of plastic while middle part is made of metal. This design also provides good value to price to performance ratio. Also, the three-stage design is very good at receiving signals.

The good news is that Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite has three separate card slots, two for sim cards and one for SD card. With this option, you can use two separate sim cards and an SD card at the same, which is not possible in Hybrid slots. This mobile phone supports memory expansion up to 128GB, which is more than sufficient.

There is an infrared blaster, noise reduction mic and a 3.5mm headphone jack from left to right on the top of the phone.

This mobile phone is easy to hold even with a bigger screen size, the notch display while increasing the display size has added a value to the appearance. In general, the appearance of the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite is a perfect balance between the price to performance ratio.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite Performance

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor.  This Soc was quite popular last year, but it has been replaced by the Snapdragon 636 SoC, which might be a disadvantage in terms of performance. However, considering the price, it is reasonable for Xiaomi to go to with this processor in this phone. The Snapdragon 625 is acceptable with MIUI optimization making full use of it.

Snapdragon 625 is the first eight-core processor of Qualcomm built on a 14nm process, with outstanding power consumption and strong performance. These 8 cores provide the speed 2.0GHz with A53 architecture. It supports up to Cat7 LTE network and there is Andreno 506 GPU  to support the graphics.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite AnTuTu Benchmark Test

We had used 3GB+32GB version for this review. So, this result is of the same version.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite scored about 79,000 points, which is not bad for the device in this price range. This is enough for daily operation and light gaming.

We tested a low graphics game, Honor of kings in this device. We were able to play this game without any problem with the default setting and the game was stable at only 30 frames per second. We noticed an acceptable amount of heat in the body of phone after playing this game for 20 minutes. While setting the brightness to the maximum, the game consumed around 7% of power in 20 minutes.

We also tested PUBG, the game was unable to run at high setting and even lagged occasionally in the lowest setting. So, we can say that this mobile can meet the daily needs of most mobile phone users but it is not suitable for high 3D graphics game.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite Camera

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite is equipped with a 12 megapixels+5 megapixels dual rear camera. The primary camera comes with a f/2.2 and a unit pixel size of 1.25 μm. The primary camera is supported by a depth field sensor of f/2.2 and a unit pixel size of 1.12 μm. In theory, larger the pixel size, the larger will be the amount of light that can enter the lens, which will improve the quality of photos taken in night and low-light. Let us see some of the sample photos taken by Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite Daylight Sample Photos

The weather didn’t favor while reviewing the camera. The day was rainy and there were clouds in the sky. The white color somehow looks gray in the picture above.

This is the embankment of the river. The color reproduction of the trees on the embankment is quite real, and the outline of the building hidden in the mist in the far-away distance is also restored.

This is a sample photo of the buildings taken during the rain. The details of the doors and windows are clear, even the lightning rods on the top of the buildings are clearly visible.

This is a macro proof, the rain has stopped now, the water drops are still floating on the petal and have not yet fallen, and the flower is producing a beautiful shine out of nowhere. The leaves on the background have been blurred and the overall image is very much eye-catching.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite Night Sample Photos

This is the shooting of buildings in the dark environment. The rear-mounted primary camera has a unit pixel size of 1.25μm, which plays a role here. It collects the light as much as possible and combines the algorithm of AI. The sky in the night looks clean and the noise has been reduced to perfection.

This is a sample photo taken at night of a statue made of metal. Obviously, under the interference of the strong light, the light has begun to show signs of overexposure.

This is a sample photo of a street shop, the light is a little weaker here. The exposure is somehow balanced here, the bright look bright while the dark looks dark. Therefore, it is obvious that Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite can have a good control over exposure in a normal environment.

This is a macro photo taken at the night. Even in the dim light, the texture of the nearby wooden tabletop is clearly visible, and the lights in the distance are just blurred forming a clump, pleasing to watch.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite Front Camera

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite is equipped with a 5-megapixel front camera. Although the megapixel count is less, It can produce good photos under the blessings of AI. Moreover, it provides features of “beauty skin” and “makeup” for selfie lovers.

As shown in the picture, this photo was taken in the cloudy environment inside a room, the overall picture quality is not bad considering the price of Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite.

In summary, the overall picture quality of Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite is very good for this price segment.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Software

The only difference between Redmi 6 Pro and MI A2 lite is that the former comes with MIUI while the latter comes with the native Android operating system.

As we are using Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro for this review, we received MIUI 10 out of the box. n the interface, MIUI 10 still maintains the overall style loved by the youths. There is no change in the icon design, but the multitasking interface and the sliding menu have been changed. The multitasking interface has been changed to the floating, and the brightness adjustment is changed to the drop-down menu below the status bar. The volume adjustments are all changed from lines to columns, and these changes make the overall UI more full. In terms of system functions, MIUI 10 also provides features like split screen, backup, and dual app.

MIUI 10 also adds an option in Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro to hide the notch in the settings, which can instantly change the screen ratio to 18:9. In addition to the original full-screen operation gestures, MIUI 10 adds a gesture operation to switch to the previous application.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite Battery

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite is equipped with a large 4000 mah battery. In combination with the low power consumption of Snapdragon, the theoretical life of the 4000 mah large battery should be extremely long. For testing it, we used the phone throughout the day and noticed a decrease of 30% battery. So, battery life should not be a problem for you. It will easily pass a day even on heavy use.

In terms of charging, Red Rice 6/MI A2 Lite Pro default charger does not support fast charging. It comes standard with a 10W charger. It takes about 2 hours to charge from 0% to 100%.

Summary

As the first notch display mobile phone in the Redmi/MI series, Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro/MI A2 Lite still continues to provide a balanced price to performance ratio. Just under $200, you will be getting a notch display phone with balanced hardware specifications, easy to use system and a good camera.
