March 1st 2019 Free Xbox Games With Gold

Welcome to the March edition of Games with Gold! First of all, we have Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion which is based on a highly successful cartoon (which I seemed to have missed). Sail your newly acquired ship over cute-looking waves as you try to save the world from a natural disaster that's already happened on a global scale. Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion is free to download for all members of Games with Gold from March 1st – 31st.

It's joined by a blast from the past, Star Wars Republic Commando, which has you commanding a small squad of men while running around blasting bad guys in first-person. Give your orders, lock your targets and see plan after well-executed plan come together. Star Wars Republic Commando is available to download from March 1st – 15th.

If you missed February's Games with Gold, you can still pick up Super Bomberman R which is a perfect way to spend five to ten minutes (or more) blowing people up in new and exciting ways. Super Bomberman R will be available until March 15th, and you can read the review for it here.

Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion

Available Mar 1st - 31st

Following on from the success of the Adventure Time cartoon show, a video game was inevitable. Adventure Timer: Pirates of the Enchiridion has you trying to save the world from a flood of biblical proportions.

The Ice King seems to be having problems with keeping his realm frozen, and your first task will be to sail there in your newly acquired, conveniently placed ship.

You're able to sail around in an almost sandbox-like environment, with main quests and side quests popping up on your compass so you'll know where to go. It's a little bit like Skyrim in this way but with a lot less content.

As you're sailing around you'll pick up crates from the sea, shoot your cannon at the bad guys and sing badly-worded sea-shanties. Each area in the world has its own collection of songs so make sure you sing them all!

When you meet new characters, you'll want to progress the story by finding out everything that they know. The way you'll do this is by using part of your ship as an interrogation room. Here you'll choose a couple of different approaches (like good cop/bad cop) as you try to make each character spill the beans. You can't really “fail” these parts of the game, so it's more about being entertained by the characters actions and responses than anything else.

You'll also take your characters on land, where they'll do some more exploring (but more importantly, fight!). There are some RPG elements to the game, and this is where the fighting comes in. Every battle you win gains you XP to level up with, but you'll also gain gold.

There aren't any shops to spend your gold on; instead, you just spend it on your character's statistics, making them incrementally stronger and stronger (which you'll definitely need to do to survive the later stages.

Graphically, the game looks like a 3D kids cartoon, and that may be a plus or a negative, depending upon your point of view. It can't be denied that there's a unique style here though.

Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion is available to download from March 1st to 31st so don't miss out!

Star Wars Republic Commando

Available Mar 1st - 15th

There have been many, many Star Wars games. Some of them are good, some of them are bad, and some of them deserve to be played at least once by everybody.

Star Wars: Republic Commando is one of those gems that everyone should try, if only so that they know what their friend has been driveling on about for years. It is an older game (2005), so the graphics aren't awesome, but if you can accept that, then you'll have a whale of a time.

Commando is basically a first-person shooter with squadmate mechanics (like Mass Effect but with no RPG elements — it's much more action orientated).

One of the things that makes Commando a great game is the fact that your squad is easy to command, acts smartly (read: won't just stand in the open if you order them to move, but will find the nearest cover) and will even try to revive you if you go down.

You can order your squad to focus fire, take position behind specific cover, man turrets, and follow you, to name a few. Each squad member will perform these tasks effortlessly, leaving you feeling like you're the weak link.

Each squad member has their own specialty too, like fixer the tech expert or the demolitions guy. I'll leave you to find out what the third members “specialty” is...

As you'd expect from an FPS, there is a lot of shooting going on. Your first task is assassination, and you'll have hundreds of Geonosians to wade through before you reach your target. You'll start off with a basic rifle and pistol, but you'll quickly upgrade your rifle with different ammo types and modules, turning it into a sniper rifle and other configurations with the flip of a switch.

You'll also find many other weapons to pick up, like the bowcaster, and even a few new weapons that may or may not be lore-friendly!

The only downside here is you're limited to carrying two weapons at a time.

If any of this sounds appealing to you then what are you waiting for? Go save the galaxy!
