Christmas is long gone, but two more presents await you! WRC 6 is a two-year-old Dirt-Rally racing simulator which is surprisingly easy to get into. It doesn't boast everything that Dirt Racer does, but it makes up for it in other ways. You can download WRC 6 from January 15th to February 15th.

The last game for January is Far Cry 2. The open-world formula was a hit, and it's no wonder. Who doesn't want to drive around an African Country being a shady mercenary? Far Cry 2 is available to download from January 16th - 31st, and if you missed the first half of January's Games with Gold, please don't miss out on Celeste, especially if you're a platforming fan, as it's one of the best. WRC 6 FIA World Rally Championship

Available Jan 16th - Feb 15th

WRC6 was released a couple of years ago, and it still manages to hold up today as an awesome racer. You'll need to be careful that you don't drive into the barriers while admiring the reflections on your car and the developers have done their best to include everything you'd expect from a Dirt-Rally Race, including the spectators (although you don't get any bonus points for driving over them, sadly).

Being the sixth game in the series, Kylotonn has made WRC even more accessible than ever, focusing on their strengths and minimizing the lack of real-life vehicles to control.

The main focus of the game is on the career mode, and you'll select your starting gear and car at the start of your career, as with previous titles.

There are plenty of championships for you to take part in and you can even create your own by grabbing races from the various countries and adding them into your custom one.

The races themselves are exactly as you'd expect from a Dirt Racer. Your co-driver calls out turns in a monotone voice as you splatter mud all over the place, including spectators, and try with all your might not to crash.

Much the difficulty comes from the conditions you're driving in, which might be at night, while snowing, in the fog, thunderstorms or a nice sunny English day... (the last one doesn't exist, sorry).

There are also co-op modes for split-screen action as well as a hot seat mode that enables you to take turns at beating each other's scores on various stages.

If you've found racing simulators hard to get into before, give WRC6 a try as it's one of the most accessible racers on the market.

Far Cry 2

Available Jan 16th - 31st

If you've ever wondered what it'd be like to be a mercenary in a war-torn African country, then now's your chance (malaria included).

Following on from the original Far Cry's success, you'll be fighting your way across a whole nation full of enemies, taking missions from the different factions and playing them off against each other while you track down the man you've been hired to kill.

Like the original game, Far Cry 2 is completely open-world, and this formula was copied and expanded upon for all the subsequent Far Cry games.

The actual game-world is massive, and you'll need to use transport to get from A to B as walking takes... a really long time. You'll also be eaten by a lion or be burned to death by a forest fire before you make it on foot, too.

Having access to cars, buggies, and boats means you'll be darting in and out of action quickly. One minute you'll be avoiding a tree trunk in the road and then the next minute you'll screech to a halt, jump out and mow down half a dozen guards who were just about to sit down to a game of poker.

Actually, that IS most of the gameplay. You're going to be either fighting, driving, or driving to your next fight so if that doesn't sound like your cup of tea, you won't like it.

In those rare moments when people aren't trying to kill you, you'll be exploring locations and speaking to warlords who want you to blow other warlords up.

You'll be paid in diamonds, and you can use these to upgrade your gear. It's also worth scavenging a battlefield after you've slaughtered the inhabitants because you may find hidden diamonds there too. Oh and briefcases. There are LOTS of briefcases in this African country. They have diamonds in them.

I enjoyed playing Far Cry 2 when it first came out, and there's a reason they made three more of them. Being able to do what you want appeals to many people and you can spend hours advancing through the story or just play for 10 minutes and take out one more guard post. The choice is yours.
