When the Storms Are Your Place of Rest

What do you do when the rain doesn’t subside and the drops drip continously over your head? What do you do when you are treading water during the fiercest tempest yet and still, it keeps coming down? You keep calling out to the One who is your shelter and you trust that He will carry you through even now.

Because He always has. His love and concern for you has never waned. Never. Romans 8:28 tells us that all things work together for the good of those who love Him, to the called according to His purpose. All things. His purpose.

It takes a lot of faith, doesn’t it? A lot of trust. And sometimes your faith ebbs more than it flows. But sometimes you must be emptied before you can be filled. God has not abandoned me nor has he abandoned you. He’s still there working in history to bring about his perfect will. We don’t always like it and more often than not we fail to discern exactly what it is He is doing in our lives.

But He is working in us and He won’t stop until the day we kneel before Him. When He stops working in us, it is finished. A good work of His is never completed until that last Day. Until then it is imperitave we keep looking up. Even when it hurts. Especially when it hurts a lot.

I keep telling myself that there will be a time when I can come up for air and just breathe. But that time hasn’t come. I haven’t known any such time this side of eternity. Much of my life has been consumed with one affliction after another especially in the past few years. Trials nip at the heels of one another. I could be bitter. I could be angry with God. I could give up and escape through any number of means. But I don’t.

As difficult as things have been, I find it inconceivable to turn my back on the One who has given me everything. He who is my everything. Sorrow. Loss. Pain. Death. What are these in the face of an eternity with Christ? They are nothing! Christ is everything!

I’ve contended that I love Christ more in all my afflictions. When you are drowning in a deluge of sorrow, loss, and death and darkness envelopes you, what or who is more beautiful than Christ? What is our life in the face of eternity? This time of trial is but temporary. Christ and glory, eternal.

I ask for continued prayers for my family and I. We are facing new trials in addition to the ones we have become accustomed to. Pray for strength, for wisdom. That in everything God may be glorified and that the light will pierce the darkness of this world.

Please also, if you are so inclined, contribute to our son’s medical fund to help pay for the bills that have accumulated and for the improvements we need to make around the house to help him get around better. Thank you and God bless.
