2017 Amazon Prime Day Predictions and Savings

As summer reaches its midway point, consumers can look forward to huge Savings this July with Amazon’s third annual Prime Day. Amazon is hosting its one-day savings spectacle sometime mid-July, and we’ve done some digging to predict additions, improvements, and likely trends for Amazon Prime Day 2017.

Amazon Prime Day was originally launched to celebrate its 20th anniversary and encourage more spending within its core customer base. So if you’re looking to save with Amazon’s Prime Day deals, you must be an Amazon Prime member. However, if you’re not looking to make a commitment, there is a free 30-day Prime trial that will allow you access to all the Prime Day savings.

Last year’s Prime Day was the biggest win in Amazon’s history, with orders up 60% after implementing some much-needed improvements from Prime Day 2015, offering over 100,000 discounts on electronics, clothing, jewelry, and more. Based on last year’s success, this year’s Prime Day is projected to be Amazon’s most successful yet.

So make sure to use all your resources when sifting through deals, including our comprehensive guide on the best Amazon shopping hacks year round. We also have a helpful write up on how to make the most of Prime Day 2017.

Since DealSpotr is committed to serving you with the resources to save you the most time and money when shopping, we gathered our predictions for this year’s Prime Day below:

Prime Day Predictions and Expected Trends:

This year, Amazon’s Prime Day will be longer than ever before, spanning a 30-hour shopping window. Many sources also predict that Amazon, like last year, will capitalize on Prime Day momentum and extend savings into something of an Amazon Prime week. Meaning all the more time for you to take advantage of those stellar savings! Last year, Amazon offered daily sales leading up to Prime Day, and this year’s Prime Day could kick off as early as July 5.

Deals for Amazon Enthusiasts

One thing that’s certain about this year’s Prime Day is that the best deals and savings will be on Amazon’s own products, like the FireStick, Echo, or Alexa devices. So for consumers looking to buy Amazon specific products, Prime Day is definitely worth the wait.

Last year’s 2016 Prime Day showed the most significant savings on Amazon’s line of devices, for example:

  • $33 Fire Tablet instead of the $50 original price
  • $70 Amazon Fire TV, $30 off the original price
  • $30 off last year Kindle Paperwhite readers
  • At least $50 off the new Amazon Echo Show

If you are currently an Amazon Prime member, you have the option of added features like Amazon Prime Now, and Amazon is offering a $10 off first Prime Now order discount code for consumers ordering in July, similar to last year.

Amazon also rewarded savings specifically for Alexa users, last year offering a $10 discount on users’ first order using an Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, or Amazon Tap device. Our guess is they will continue to offer exclusive deals to Alexa users this Prime Day.

We predict that this year’s Prime Day will follow a similar format of the last two Prime Days. In the weeks leading up to Prime Day, we expect to see a push on Amazon Prime subscription deals to encourage consumers to participate in the savings. Then on Prime Day itself, deals will be grouped in two categories: Deals of the Day (generally the most notable and best savings) and Lightning Deals, which are deals available for short periods of time on a huge range of categories. Lightning Deals often sell out very quickly, so be on your feet, and an added bonus: Prime members see exclusive deals before non-members.

A More Affordable Prime Day

In early June, Amazon introduced a new membership plan, offering discounted Prime accounts for low-income users, so this Prime Day consumer receiving government assistance will have the chance to take part in the endless savings and deals. "We designed this membership option for customers receiving government assistance to make our everyday selection and savings more accessible, including the many conveniences and entertainment benefits of Prime,” said Greg Greeley, Vice President of Amazon Prime.

Amazon also offers additional savings specifically for students this Prime Day. Students looking to enroll in Amazon Prime are eligible for a Prime Student membership, offering a 6-month free trial, and when that ends, an upgrade to Amazon Prime for 50% off.

Continuing To Improve

Since Prime Day’s inception in 2015, Amazon has worked to maximize user-friendliness, valuable savings, and ease of purchase to improve its annual day of savings.

Some critics of Prime Day’s past say Amazon could improve its user interface and offer user-friendly features, like deal alerts on desired items or notifications on “Wish List” deal alerts for savings on items Amazon knows certain users want.

As Prime Day nears, we will continue to update this page with all the breaking savings news and details!
