It is just about summer time, time to clean all that muck and dust from spring and winter off the car! Let it shine in the bright summer sun. But don’t forget about the inside of your car now, we know there’s some crumbs in the creases of the seats from those Christmas cookies your mom sent you. Or a coffee stain on the seat from one of your morning lattes. Make sure the inside matches the outside. Don’t just clean in the inside with any cleaner that is. The Upholstery in cars are a bit more difficult to clean, you need to make sure you use the right products that will do the job well. But then again those fancy products can cost a lot.

So to help you out, here are are a couple DIY cleaning recipes that include everyday household items that you have in your home to help get your upholstery looking like new!

1. For the first one, you will need 1 cup of boiling water mixed with 1 tablespoon of Borax and 3 tablespoons of any dish soap. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle of use a bowl and rag. Use the mixture and a rag to scrub in, then let dry before repeating the step. Do as many times until the desired cleanliness is reached.
2. The next one is ½ cup of any dish soap mixed with ½ cup of white vinegar. Mix in a bowl and use a sponge or rag to drip some on the spot/stain and scrub.
3. Lastly, use a bar of Ivory soap and grate about 2 tablespoons of it and mix with 1 tablespoon of borax. Use a scrub brush and dip it in the mixture and scrub away the spots of stains.

A lot of these mixtures can even be used as everyday household cleaners. The borax and vinegar are very good at breaking down dirt and odor. Also do not forget to open your car doors and let it air out and give the upholstery time to dry to prevent mildew.

And one last tip, add your favorite essential oil to any of these mixture to leave your car smelling fresh and clean.
