Althea Petal Velvet Powder – Review, Photos & Swatches

Althea – the website we all know and love. The online shop that features the best deals when it comes to Korean skincare and makeup, now have their own makeup product. I couldn’t be happier and excited for them. That’s why when I got my hands on the Petal Velvet Powder, I knew I had to try it. Immediately.

Althea Says:
This debuting beauty is a translucent powder that sets makeup and leaves behind a silky finish to the touch. Infused with oil from Althea seeds, this powder works to keep sebum production at bay without drying out the skin for a radiant, fresh look, all while giving out a gentle scent. Keep your makeup looking great all day or dust some on to stay shine-free!”

Launched last August, Althea Petal Velvet Powder claims to do a lot of things. However, these two intrigued me the most and made me want to try it right away. It claims to leave your skin velvety smooth while keeping your makeup in tact all day. That’s a big claim. Hmm.. we shall see.

Apart from the aforementioned claims, the powder is said to have a lightweight, skin-perfect formula, specially formulated to have the same elasticity as skin to set makeup without caking. The powder is translucent and only offers one shade. It does not affect your foundation/base.

I really love the texture of this powder. It’s very finely milled, soft, and silky smooth. I have a couple of translucent, finishing loose powders, but none of them is as soft and smooth as this one. That’s important to me, because though some are finely milled, they leave my skin feeling dry and cakey. Also, even though this is very finely milled, it doesn’t make me sneeze compared to others.

Like I said, it doesn’t alter the color of my foundation nor does it add any further coverage. I just use this either to bake or just to set my usual base. I haven’t used this for retouching/blotting yet, and I’ll let you know why later.

What I love about this powder is that despite being designed for people with oily skin, it doesn’t make my face look or feel dry and cakey. It’s very lightweight and it leaves my skin feeling really soft and smooth. There’s still this nice sheen that I don’t get with usual setting powders. It also keeps my makeup in tact the whole day. I’m very impressed!

True to its name, the Althea Petal Velvet Powder has a mild, flower petal scent. I do love the scent of this one. Reminds me of a lipstick I used to own back in the day.  If you’re not into heavily scented makeups, this one’s for you.

Overall, I am very impressed with this product and I will continue to use it until I finally run out. On that note, I will definitely repurchase this once that happens because (a) like I said, I love this and (b) this one’s really affordable you can even buy a backup and it wont cost you a lot.

This product was designed for those with oily skin but I say no. I have normal to dry skin and this works on me. It doesn’t accentuate any of my dry spots and it keeps me looking fresh all day. I highly recommend it. If you’re starting out with makeup or if you want an affordable loose powder than you can use either to bake, set your base, or to blot and you have either oily or combo skin, (though I’m not sure if this will work for those with really dry skin, FYI) then I suggest you click your way to Althea and grab yourself one (or two!).
