Don Quijote | One Of The Best Ox Tail Stews in Singapore

Media Tasting at Don Quijote Spanish Restaurant

Don Quijote is named after the chivalric main character in a fictional Spanish novel. Offering Spanish food in a contemporary atmosphere restaurant with high ceiling at Dempsey Hill. Feel free to browse the picture frames at Don Quijote. Each photo in the restaurant is painstakingly taken from different parts in Spain by the owner himself. Don Quite is renowned for its tapas and home-style Spanish menu including fresh seafood, pasta, succulent meat, homemade stews, and steaks. The founder is very conscious of the freshness, you can expect live and fresh seafood in this review.

The live sea prawns were springy and crunchy. Layered with lots of garlic and olive oil making it more flavourful, and fragrant in taste. It certainly made my meal even more “shiok”!.

Don’t underestimate this dark and sticky oxtail stew, it’s delicious. Tender beef loaded with potatoes and carrots, all smothered in an incredibly flavourful stew broth. There won’t be much chewing involved and you will literally feel the fats melt in your mouth. This is my favourite dish of the night!

We were told that the porks are sourced from Spain, neither Indonesia nor Malaysia. The authentic suckling pig with the shatter wafer thin crackling that can be easily sliced with a plate. It happened in a blink. And sadly, I did not manage to capture the shot. Back to the suckling pig, the meat was very flavourful with lots of garlic and pepper with a hint of rosemary fragrant. It may be too salty to my liking.

Roasted Spanish Style Suckling Pig from S$89.

The giant Tomahawk Bone-in Rib with the long bone resembles a single-handed axe is one of the most visually impressive steaks. It leaves the grill with a gorgeous charred-finish crust and a blushing-pink center. The meat was decently tender and rich taste as it could be.
Charcoal-flame-grilled bone-in tomahawk rib-steak at S$18 /100 grams. (Pre-order 1 day in advance)

There are some special order items that are not found on the menu. The ‘Live’ Baby Boston Lobster paella and ‘Live’ baby Boston lobster squid-ink pasta are some of the special order items. The lobster meat was fresh and springy in texture and the silky smooth squid-ink angel hair soak up the juices. A dash of lemon juice does wonders to elevate the flavours in this pasta.

Using the premium chocolate from Barcelona, enjoy the intensely rich yet balanced chocolate sensation. The warm churro had a crispy and crusty texture on the outside and fluffy soft on the inside.

Spanish Doughnuts at S$12.
