Sunday, my absolute favourite day. A chance to breathe and do what I want without that feeling of urgency that I often have in the week. I always find myself chasing my tail Monday to Saturday with work commitments, places to visit and blog posts to write, but on Sunday that all changes. I feel free and I love it.

Last week, after spending the morning dancing (I teach ballet and do love a Sunday morning class), I made my way home for a spot of baking. I had friends coming over for afternoon tea and wanted to whip up a batch of my famous buttermilk scones to serve alongside clotted cream (of course) and a brand new Bonne Maman Conserve.

I was recently lucky enough to have some Mirabelle Plum Conserve who sent me some to sample. The first thing that popped into my head when it came through the post was “I bet that would be great on a scone!” Click here for my Buttermilk Scone recipe.

I wasn’t wrong! The crumbly buttermilk scones with the unctuous clotted cream and then the slightly tart Conserve was an absolute winner if I do say so myself! A traditional Devonshire cream tea is my all-time favourite. Mixing things up a bit and not opting for the usual strawberry or raspberry jam added to the complete sense of joy I experienced on that first bite. I would highly recommend you try the Mirabelle Plum Conserve for yourself.

Viki and Chantelle didn’t come empty-handed. More baking had been done. Viki had made a wonderful beetroot and feta quiche with the most delicious shortcrust pastry and creamy filling. Chantelle counteracted our buttery bakes with some wonderful berries.

Conversation flowed as we caught up on each others news. We laughed and joked whilst consuming our delicious baked treats. It really was a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
