Ingredients

  • 200 gms cottage cheese (Paneer)
  • 2 medium size white onion
  • 1 capsicum
  • 1 green chili
  • 1/2 tbsp of Ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp Soya sauce
  • 1 tsp chili sauce
  • 2 tsp of tomato ketchup
  • Pinch of Ajinomoto
  • 2 tbsp of Olive Oil
  • Spring onion greens for garnishing
  • Oil for shallow frying cottage cheese (paneer)

Method

First of all, cut the cottage cheese (paneer) into medium size cubes and we will marinate them. For marinating we need:  1 1/2 tbsp Cornflour, 2 tsp all purpose flour (maida) 1 tsp of ginger garlic paste, 1/4 tsp pepper powder and salt to taste.

How to marinate: Take a bowl to make the batter for marination, add cornflour, ginger garlic paste, salt needed, pepper powder with very less water and mix well, now add cubed cottage cheese (paneer) pieces and sprinkle all purpose flour (maida) and mix well till all is well coated on cottage cheese. Keep aside and let this marination stays for 30 minutes.

Now take a saucepan and add olive oil into it for shallow frying cubed cottage cheese (paneer) on medium flame, fry them till they are golden brown.(Once the cubed cottage cheese (paneer) pieces develop a nice golden brown color, take them out on a plate lined with paper towel to remove excess oil and keep them aside.)

Do not fry the cottage cheese (paneer) for too long or it will become hard.

Not cut capsicum and onions into medium sized pieces or into a square shape.

Now in a nonstick pan, add oil, onion, slitted green chili and saute till onions turn transparent. Now add ginger garlic paste and saute for a few more minutes.

Now add all the other ingredients like capsicum, soya sauce, chili sauce, tomato ketchup, salt and fry on high heat, keep stirring continuously. Take care of the capsicum, it should be kept crispy, so avoid overcooking them.

Reduce the heat, add the fried cottage cheese (paneer) and mix well. Add Pinch of Ajinomoto and cook for a few more minutes till the cottage cheese (paneer) is well coated with the sauces. Garnish with finely chopped spring onion greens.

If you want to make chili paneer with gravy you can add some more slurry of cornstarch and water.

In the end, garnish with green part of spring onion and mix well. You can taste the dish and adjust the salt if needed.

Serve it as a starter or as a side dish with Fried Rice or Noodles.
