Allergy-Friendly Eating at True Food Kitchen

Does this sound familiar? You decide to make brunch or dinner plans, you map what’s around, check all the menus, cross-check for everybody’s restrictions and specifications, then finally make your decision. When I look at menus I try to find at least one item that’s prepared allergy-friendly or can be easily altered. True Food Kitchen takes the guesswork away and presents a readable menu, full of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free food!

I love brunch so much, stuffing your face with sweet or savory (or both) food, accompanied by a delicious fun drink, great conversation, with your favorite people. What’s not to love?! A few months ago, my husband, my sister, and I brunched at True Food Kitchen and from stepping in the front door I was already obsessed. They have a bright and breezy feel and the cutest kitchen planters. If you’ve never heard of True Food, they serve health-conscious and fresh food, including vegan and allergy-friendly options, with tasty cocktails and juices. Soooo basically, it’s foodie heaven.

Brunching with my family can be tricky because we all have so many food allergies, restrictions, and preferences. It’s actually comical at times… My sister is a vegetarian, I prefer eating vegan food so I know it’s dairy and egg free, and my husband should avoid dairy but sometimes he lives life on the edge. True Food was the perfect spot because we felt like we were being healthier, they had something for everybody, it’s still relatively new, and they have a patio! All very important.

After ordering our drinks and scanning the menu a few times, we decided to put our order in. I ordered their Butternut Squash Pizza with smoked onion, organic kale, dried cranberry, and almond ricotta. Y’all the “cheese” on this pizza was to die for!!! I wish I could eat this pizza forever, it was seriously one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. All the flavors were so perfect and I still felt relatively healthy while eating this. I’m usually not one for eating pizza crust but their crust was amazing, I ate every single piece.

The butternut squash pizza is on their fall or winter seasonal menu so you can only drool over it when it’s brisk outside. They do have two other vegan pizzas for spring 2018 though–the grilled artichoke & pesto and tomato & arugula. I need to run my booty over there stat to try those out! Some other plant-based options they have are spring asparagus toast, vegan chorizo bowl, charred cauliflower, kale guacamole, shiitake lettuce cups, quinoa and grain bowls, and a smoked tempeh sandwich. Uhhh yum, I would like one of each–please and thank you!!

Now to the eggy part, which I obviously didn’t partake in. My sister ordered the vegetarian smashed avocado toast that comes with organic sunny side up eggs, smoked gouda, black sesame, and thyme. My husband ordered the sunrise bowl with organic sunny side up eggs, ancient grains, sweet potato, grilled portobello, avocado, hemp seed, and cilantro pumpkin seed pesto. They both enjoyed each bite of their brunch and we all agreed we needed to come back to this spot ASAP.

No brunch is complete without festive cocktails, True Food offers a pineapple & organic mimosa, a cherry & pomegranate mimosa, and an organic scratch bloody mary. We went with the mimosas all around and may have ordered a second round.

If you’re searching for a special diet dining experience or just a healthier option for brunch, I highly recommend True Food! What would you order? Let me know in the comments section.
