You Can Decoupage Anything: Five Creative Ideas

You can find Decoupage Medium at the craft store along with all of the supplies you need to make some amazing crafts. Decoupage medium is a very versatile craft supply and all you need is a little creativity to make something truly wonderful. Keep reading for five creative ideas using decoupage medium.

1. Colorful Hangers

Give your closet a face-lift with some lovely decoupage hanger. Simply take an assortment of wooden hangers and some brightly colored napkins and give those hangers a redesign. Start by cutting shapes out of the napkins according to which ones you like the most then paint a layer of decoupage medium over the hanger. Next, arrange your cut-outs as you like and go over them with another layer of decoupage medium. Once they dry you can use them in your closet.

2. Design Your Own Dishes

Are you having trouble finding a china pattern that you actually like? If so, why not ditch the department store and make your own! With glass plates and some pretty fabric, you can design and create a set of completely custom dishes. Start by purchasing some plain glass plates and some thin cotton fabric. Lay the fabric out flat then place your dishes on it, arranging them so you get the parts of the pattern you like. Cut out the shape of each plate then apply a layer of decoupage medium under and over the fabric on the underside of the plate.

3. Collage Monogram

Looking for something unique to hang on the wall or display on the mantle? Why not make a collaged monogram using the initial of your last name? Gather up some of your favorite family photos or print them off in black and white. Purchase a large wooden letter and play around with the arrangement of the photos until you find one you like. Then, simply paint the letter with decoupage medium, arrange the photos overtop, and finish with another layer then let dry.

4. Preserve Fall Leaves

When the leaves change color in the fall, it is a magical time of year. Preserve that magic by using decoupage medium to preserve some leaves with their bright fall colors. Simply gather an assortment of freshly fallen leaves (they should still be soft) and paint both sides with decoupage medium. From there, you can use your imagination to figure out how to use the leaves. String them in a garland, use them to decorate a fall wreath, or scatter them on the table for a natural centerpiece.

5. Upcycle Thrift Store Finds

Make a weekend trip to a local flea market or spend an afternoon poking around a local thrift store to find interesting things you can upcycle. Old wooden chairs, flower vases, and even glassware can be decorated with colorful paper napkins, tissue paper, or scrapbook paper if you have a bottle of decoupage medium. Don’t be afraid to go a little crazy – you never know what you might be able to create with a little imagination!
