The non-surgical neck lift

As you get older, one of the inevitable changes that will occur is that your skin will begin to show the signs of ageing, especially on the Neck. This is because we often pay less attention to the skin on our neck. We neglect to apply sun cream, plus the fact that many of us are now hooked to our laptops and mobiles, forever looking down at our screens. Changes that occur as we age include a sagging neck and the appearance of jowls. There is usually also a loss of jaw definition as we age.Although this ageing process cannot be stopped, there are ways in which to eradicate a sagging neck, and to gain a more youthful appearance. Today more women are choosing to have a neck lift, so as to create an elegantly sculpted neck. Although surgical procedures can be reliably carried out and have the potential to produce excellent long lasting results, they are usually very expensive and invasive with risks of serious complications as the skin on the neck is thinner than that on the face, heals at a slower rate and is more prone to infection. As a result, non-invasive procedures are gaining popularity as they are cheaper and associated with very short recovery time.
The non surgical neck lift is commonly referred to as the “Nefertiti lift” because of its reference to the Egyptian Queen, Nefertiti, who although dates back 3,000 years ago, is a modern beauty icon for women wanting to achieve the elegant 'swan' neck. The Nefertiti lift involves using several Botox® injections, usually around 20-40, to the lower jaw and neck. The whole procedure is very quick and usually takes no more than 15 minutes. It can also be combined with Botox® injections to frown lines in order to create a feminine, tight and sculpted jawline. When Botox® is injected, it reduces the activity of the platysma, which is the fine muscle that goes from the jaw, extends to the lower chest and pulls the face downwards. In essence the procedure stops this muscle from pulling the face downwards enabling muscles which pull upwards t have the “upper hand” and thus produce the appearance of sagging and wrinkling along the jaw line whilst not affecting the important functions of the face such as expression, eating, breathing or speaking. The use of this non-surgical procedure is very effective and many people report dramatic changes to the appearance of the neck area, usually as soon as 7 days after the procedure. The skin on your neck will appear smoother, and with no visible creases. Skin will also appear tighter and jowls visibly reduced. These improvements can last for up to 4 months and most people will have a repeat procedure in 3-6 months to continue the effect. There is very little downtime associated with the procedure although rubbing the area is not encouraged. Of course, Botox is not suitable for everyone and extremely aged necks may require more invasive treatments such as surgery. It is important to Consult with a qualified and experienced doctor who will help you decide whether this procedure maybe suitable for you.
