The American Museum of Natural History's annual Margaret Mead Film Festival is on its 42nd year.  This year's theme focuses on resilence. Starting on Thursday, October 18th, the film festival will debut documentaries, installations and more until Sunday, October 21st.

Kicking off the festival is "Stolen Daughters:Kidnapped by Boko Haram." The 75-minute film introduces to the world some of the young women who were abducted from their school, and shows how they're in the process of re-adapting themselves to living at home surrounded by their families. After the showing there will be a discussion with filmmakers Karen Edwards and Sasha Achilli.

Harry Potter: The History of Magic Exhbit is at the NY Historical Society

Other films during the festival include "Capturing the Flag," filmed on Election Day 2016, four volunteers at the polls in North Carolina answer questions, "Ciao Babylon" linguist Daniel Kaufman and his team are trying to help keep New York City's various languages alive--over 400 languages in the city are being lost. "The Flying Friar," a Croatian Friar uses the celebration of Croatian music to bring communities together. There's also a documentary about scientists trying to revive the woolly mamoth and much more. To view all the films, please click here.

Special events during the festival include a mixed media lounge, a cocktail mixer where you can chat up filmmakers, and there's the "Collectively at the Mead," a series of documentaries that focus on how small groups of people are starting to use film as a way of preserving their heritage, and to share their stories.  Collectively showcases documentaries from Brazil, Cambodia, Rwanda and other countries.
