Queen Elizabeth II Met the Queen of Frost at London Fashion Week & Yes, There's a Video

What happens when two queens collide during London Fashion Week? One Queen was gracious, one was not. Guess who.

Queen Elizabeth II, everyone's favorite grandmother sat next to Ann Wintour, Queen of Vogue yesterday at the Richard Quinn fashion show during London Fashion Week. Queen Elizabeth was given a chair with a comfy cushion. Wintour had to make do with a non-cushioned one.

Yesterday marked the first time the monarch had ever attended London Fashion Week. The Queen was there to present the first ever Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design to Quinn. The designer, a graduate of Central Saint Martins, started his own company only two years ago. The British Fashion Council chose him to be their first ever recipient of this design award.

During the presentation, Queen Elizabeth stated, "From the tweed of the Hebrides to Nottingham lace, and of course Carnaby Street, our fashion industry has been renowned for outstanding craftsmanship for many years, and continues to produce world-class textiles and cutting edge, practical design. As a tribute to the industry, and as my legacy to all those who have contributed to British fashion, I would like to present this award for new, young talent."

Now to the dishy bits. The Queen wore a suit by Angela Kelly. She accessorized her suit with black gloves, pearl and diamond earrings, and a very sparkly Swarovski brooch.  Wintour wore a full-skirted floral dress and her trademark sunglasses. Throughout her conversation with the Queen, Wintour kept her sunnies on. Let me repeat this, she never took off her sunglasses whilst engaged in convesation with the Queen of England.

I had no idea that Anna Wintour was more important, world-politics speaking, than the Queen of England.  Wintour took her sunnies off in the Manolo Blahnik documentary. She was filmed without them anywhere near her.  So, in Wintour's universe, a shoe designer is geopolitically more important than a head of state?

And it's just plain rude. Whether Wintour was sitting next to a head of state or anyone else, the most basic rule of manners is to take off one's sunglasses when engaging in conversation with someone else. Even if you're on the worst blind date ever, you take your sunglasses off when talking to that person.

So...Do you think Wintour's too cool for school and it's perfectly fine for her to keep her sunglasses on, or was she just a tad supercilious?
