There are some people who see a photo of Meghan Markle with Prince Harry at official events, and they clutch their pearls. They’re incensed that she’s wearing (gasp) pants and showing her shoulders (double gasp!).

Some people think whatever she wears is delightful. Markle favors (for the most part) designers and brands that give back, little known designers, Canadian designers, and affordable fashion. When you look at her wardrobe choices, it seems that she’s a typical consumer, right? Markle is a modern young woman. Prince Harry, like his older brother Prince William, are modern royals. Wearing trainers, jeans and hugging people is okay.
For her first big night out, her first official evening debut, Markle accompanied Prince Harry to the Endeavor Fund Awards in London this past Thursday night, she wore a suit! A woman’s tuxedo. Women’s tuxes were first made famous by Yves Saint Laurent in 1966. He called his creation, Le Smoking. When the outfit first strolled down the runways, it was considered revolutionary. People were furious, and some thought it revolting, not revolutionary. Back in the 60s, women fought to wear trousers. Now, it’s common to see women wearing trousers and tuxes on the red carpet.
