Ever wondered about the people behind the perennially popular children's book series Curious George? You're in luck! Tomorrow night (August 8) Rooftop Films is presenting the sneak preview of the new documentary, Monkey Business: The Adventures of Curious George's Creators.
Hans and Margaret Rey, the author of the Curious George books met cute. Both grew up in Germany. When Margaret's sister had her 16th birthday party, Hans was a guest. Years later, they re-met in Brazil. The two fell in love, married and moved to Paris. As the Nazis began to invade France, the duo escaped on home-made bikes. Hidden in their things, was the manuscript for the first book.
Filmmaker Ema Ryan Yamazaki and narrator Sam Waterston will be on hand for a question and answer session after viewing the doc.
The film's showing will be held on the rooftop of the JCC Manhattan. Located 34 Amsterdam Ave at 76th Street. Before the film begins, enjoy live music from Mirah.
Doors open at 7:30 pm. At 8, Mirah takes the stage. The movie starts at 8:30, followed by the Q and A session, then a post-screening reception.
