No, not the Spanish way of saying “man,” because there’s an accent aigu, it’s ombrééééé.

Ever since the founding Basic bitch decided that they’re so into art, we have dismissed the choice of solid colors (except for black and white, because we love black and white) and have opted for a tonal fade, otherwise known as an ombré. This shading effect can be found in our hair, on our nails, in our wardrobe, and even in the foods we eat (ombré cakes have been on our list of #goals ever since we saw them on Pinterest). So why has this multi-tonal palette taken over all our preferences? We’ll tell you.

1.) It shows we’re daring and different.

Truthfully, we’d never dye our hair any color that lies outside the natural hair color spectrum (because how would we get a job in PR then?). But one toned hair makes us boring. There’s a fine line between boring and basic – tread carefully. Adding some blonde to the ends of our hair shows that we’re edgy and daring enough to add some color, and that we’re “different,” which takes us out of the category of “boring.”

2.) There’s no need to fish for compliments – they come right to you.

Other Basic Bitches know to appreciate a good ombré. Getting that perfect blend is not as easy as asking for a Mocha Light Frappuccino Blended Coffee. If you’re doing it right, you’ll be hearing “OMG I loveeeee your ombré!” left and right.

3.) It shows you our artistic abilities.

Our #nailart is where we like to showcase our latest creations, and nothing says artistic skillz than a perfectly faded ombré. From using sponges to a prideful freehand design, we show you just how capable we are. We chose the perfect colors to blend, and our fade is fantastic.

4.) Why choose one color, when we can choose two?

We pretty much like everything, so sometimes we have a hard time making tough decisions. Ombré can assist us with this inner struggle by allowing us to choose TWO colors, or even more! Because we like pink AND blue.

5.) It’s low maintenance.

Obviously, we are busy individuals that don’t have time to get our roots done between the time we spend at Starbucks and Panera Bread. Less time at the hair salon, more time refining our nail art skills.

6.) It’s trendy.

In basic bitch nature, we cannot defy against following trends. It’s like how birds migrate south in the winter – it’s in our natural behavioural patterns. Follow the trends. Be one with the trends. Ombré is trendy? So are we.

7.) It’s easy to DIY.

Walls, decor, jewelry, phone cases, we can ombré it all! Pinterest knows it all.

8.) It syncs effortlessly with our basic wardrobe.

We love neutrals because they pair with everything. Ombrés work in the same manner. We can add that pop of teal into our wardrobe, as long as it fades into white. Bright blue? Sure, if it ombrés into black!

9.) It fits our basic bitch budget.

Cheaper than a beautiful balayage, but less ratchet than a dip-dye, ombré hair allows us to look fancy but still have money for our Pumpkin Spice Lattes low-fat soy half-cream skinny no-whip.

10.) Creates a bond with our other basic bitches.

Ain’t no better time spent than helping your fellow cult members achieve the perfect at-home ombré hair, finding the best technique for ombré nails, and pouring your heart and soul into perfecting a homemade ombré cake. Do it for the friends, bitches.
