10. Kyle’s Mom, American Horror Story: Coven
9. The Massacre, American Horror Story: Murder House
8. Madame LaLaurie’s Torture Chamber, American Horror Story: Coven
7. The Ultrasound, American Horror Story: Murder House
This was one of those scenes that was left up the imagination. You knew something was wrong with the baby when the technician fainted during the ultrasound, quit her job, and later describes the unborn child as having devil like features. We all pictured horns and hooves to come out of Vivien (Connie Britton).
6. Dr. Thredson’s Rape Room, American Horror Story: Asylum
Just when you think poor Lana (Sarah Paulson) escaped the horrible asylum, you find out that she’s run right into the hands of serial killer Dr. Thredson (Zachary Quinto) aka ‘Bloody Face’. She gets trapped in a basement of rape, breastfeeding, and skinning. All things we’ve tried to block from our memory.
5. The Rubber Man and Vivien, American Horror Story: Murder House
The original promos for AHS portrayed the Rubber Man as a creepy insect-like animal, and that’s just what we got in the scene where the Rubber Man pretends to be Ben and rapes Vivien (Connie Britton). This is one of the moments that set up the show as being terrifying, confusing, and leaves you with the question of what’s real and what’s not.
4. The Clown, American Horror Story: Freak Show
Although Freak Show had a lot of creepy and ‘freaky’ characters, the Clown takes the cake. What is it about clowns that’s just so terrifying? Well this one went on a murderous rampage, had remnants of a half destroyed and self-inflicted mouth, and literally looked like he stepped out of a nightmare.
3. Shelly’s Amputations, American Horror Story: Asylum
Good old Shelly, she was just looking for a good time, however she soon fell into the hands of sociopath Dr. Arden’s (James Cromwell) experiments. Shelly’s amputations were something nightmares are made of. And what’s worse is that she was found crawling onto a playground of children. Talk about terrifying.
2. The Possession, American Horror Story: Asylum
Demons, nuns, asylums, aliens, and experiments, this season had them all. But the most terrifying moment was when an exorcism had to be done on a boy who was possessed by the devil. And did it work? Nope, the devil swiftly went into sweet, innocent and pure nun Sister Mary Eunice McKee (Lily Rabe). Things quickly went downhill from there.
1. Monster in The Basement, American Horror Story: Murder House
Nothing terrified us more than the monster that Tate (Even Peters) and Violet (Taissa Farmiga) set loose on Violet’s school bully Leah in the basement of her house. We were treated with a quick preview of the creature and it freaked us out as much as poor Leah. Let’s just say nothing is scarier than seeing this creature screaming at us between strobe flashes. Nothing.
What moments in American Horror Story freaked you out the most?
