How to Maintain your Nails

Nail Care:

First, your skin and nails are constantly being bathed in many oils, apart from moisture. Second, we come in constant contact with all things chemical in nature, for example, washing our hands in a chemically based soap, or doing the household cleaning. If done without any protection to your skin and nails, this can rob your skin and nails of essential oils and moisture, causing split and peeling nails.
To maintain your nails well, you need to see that they do not split and peel. If you suffer from any nail diseases and disorders, speak to a physician or nail technician and take this prescribed medication.

To maintain your nails perfectly, here is a list of nail tools you will require:
  • Terry towels: This protects the work area from chemicals and water, besides also being handy to dry our hands between one task and another and before applying enamel.
  • Orangewood sticks: This is used to push back the cuticle gently and clean under the free ridge of your nails and to remove any extra enamel.
  • Cotton or gauze pads: This is used to remove enamel and any extra oil from the surface of the nail plate.
  • Nail polish remover: With nail polish remover, you can successfully remove nail enamel or polish from the nail plate surface. You can safely use acetone based removers on natural nails.
  • Files or abrasives: You can find files in all sizes and grits. The rule of thumb is that the higher the number, the smaller the grit, and the lower the number, the coarser the grit. Always use a grit larger than 240 on the natural nail plate or for shaping the free edge. On the other hand, you'll find padded abrasives easier to hold. They also maintain their grit for longer periods, and many of them can be cleaned.
  • Cuticle nippers: You can use these to cut your cuticles. They come in sizes of ¼ jaw, ½ jaw and full jaw. So, the greater the cutting surface, the easier to cut the skin with just one stroke. For best results, use a nipper with a small cutting surface.
  • Nail or toenail nippers: These are just a larger version of a cuticle nipper that can remove excess nail length and cut toenails. They work best with a small, curved blade to reduce the length of your fingernails.
  • Curette: With a curette, you can scrape away the excess cuticle from the nail plate.
  • Nailbrush: Scrub the surface and the underside of your nail plate with a wet nailbrush to take away any dirt and debris and pathogenic organisms.
In addition, you can also use a manicure bowl and a pedicure tub to get those perfectly maintained nails
