Honest Conversation With Dr. Logan Levkoff On Sexuality And Fashion

This time we caught up with Dr. Logan Levkoff, who is a recognized expert on Sexuality and relationships. Logan is a perfect example of beauty with a cause! She empowers children, adolescents, and adults to embrace their sexuality and challenge the impractical, and often unhealthy, messages that they are exposed to.

Logan frequently appears on television including Good Morning America, The Today Show, The Rachael Ray Show, The CBS Early Show, Oprah, Fox News Channel, and CNN. She was the host of CafeMom’s show, Mom Ed: In the Bedroom, the sexuality expert for the first three seasons of the breakout hit for A&E/FYI, Married at First Sight, and is the host of Shape Magazine’s video series, “The Sexpert.”

Logan is a trusted source for numerous publications and has penned sex columns for many of them. Currently, Logan blogs regularly for The Huffington Post. She is also the author of many popular books like :Got Teens? The Doctor Moms’ Guide to Sexuality, Third Base Ain’t What it Used to Be and many else

1. What drove you to start your career as a sexuality educator?

When I was fifteen years old, my parents left condoms and bananas on our dinner table and taught me about how to protect myself from HIV. I became a peer HIV/AIDS educator right away. Even as a kid, I loved having the ability to make provocative subjects seem less taboo…and I hated that smart and driven girls and women were not given positive and empowering messages about sex/uality. That being said, when I was young, I thought that I was going to be a lawyer, but I couldn’t be happier with my career path.

2. What do you think is the most toxic myth that our society perpetuates about sex/relationships?

The most toxic myth: there is one “normal” way to express your sexuality. There is no normal, never has been, never will be. Every person is entitled to express themselves in a way that is meaningful and fulfilling to them (as long as it is consensual, of course).

3. Can you please introduce the crazy concept of your very popular show: Married at First Sight!

MAFS is a televised social experiment that seeks to answer the question: can social scientists play a role in arranging marriage. Experts match couples and they don’t meet until the moment that they say, “I do.” I know, it sounds crazy.

4. What’s the success percentage of the marriages from the show? Did the couples actually went on a together-forever journey without any complications?

I appeared on the first three seasons of MAFS. In our first season, two couples (Cortney and Jason and Jamie and Doug) stayed together. That was four years ago; Jamie and Doug just had a baby and Cortney and Jason are still happily married and enjoying life together. It is amazing to watch their journeys. But we are so proud of all of them. This experiment wasn’t easy, and I would imagine that everyone has learned something about themselves, life, and love, along the way.

5. As we know, you have appeared on hundreds of television shows. What is your go to style mantra for such appearances?

Look like a lady – but always have a rock n’ roll edge. I love a pretty dress, but I will always add motorcycle boots, leather cuffs, or leather jackets to them. That being said, I cannot turn down a collar. Seriously. I have tons of dresses and sweaters with white peter pan collars. I love them.

6. Share the quick secret recipe of how you allure your everyday look?

Vintage rock n’ roll tee, black blazer, jeans, and boots.
(You can always switch your tees and jeans…it’s my go to.)

7. What are your 3 must have fashion items that you can’t survive without?

Motocycle boots.
Legwarmers
Black blazer

8. What are the most frequently asked question regarding sex and relationship?

Why don’t I have orgasms from vaginal intercourse alone?
I fantasize about __________; am I normal?

9. Name your 5 favorite fashion Brands/ Designers? What is it about their designs that appeals to you maximum?

Gucci – I am obsessed with Alessandro Michele’s use of bows, sparkles, and bees.
I love Zara for inexpensive, fashion forward looks.
Brandon Maxwell’s simple yet sophisticated clothes are breathtaking.
Miu Miu‘s lacy and crystal-embellished pieces totally reflect my fashion sensibilities.
Loyd/Ford – ladylike and rock n’ roll all in one – just perfect

10. Let’s conclude off with a few favorites:

Color – hot pink
Trend – bows – all of the women in my family (all generations) have a thing about bows (jewelry, clothes, tattoos, etc.)
Show – Dear Evan Hansen
Book – To Kill a Mockingbird
Place – Jerusalem, Israel
