You’re Going To Love These AW17 Beauty Trends

Following on from the fun, playful Makeup themes of SS17, this year Autumn-Winter beauty trends bring with them more of the same with an added edge. Get ready for some beautiful contradictions because everyone’s digging these makeup vibes that are a contemporary take on classic throwbacks.

1. ’60s Fun

Urban Decay Razor Sharp Water-Resistant Longwear Liquid Eyeliner, Ecstacy, £17;
Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour, La Secrete, £28

It looks like the 1960s are back in full swing with this season.

At Chanel, the bold graphic liner was combined with metallic eyeshadow to go with their outer-space catwalk set. Then the eyes were defined even further with clumpy lashes and an understated face and finished off with a soft pink lip for a feminine touch.

The eyeliner was just as bold over at Chloe, with models showcasing their artistic side in the form of dynamic feline flicks using a mixture of black and coloured liquid eyeliner.

One thing’s for sure when it comes to this trend: More is definitely more!

2. Grunge Chic

Chanel Les 4 Ombres Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow, £42;
MAC Kohl Power Eye Pencil, £14.50

Embrace your inner rocker chick this upcoming season with smokey eyes, à la Balmain. This look was created using a cool combination of copper and silver hues.

Carolina Herrera must have seen Balmain’s smokey eyes and decided to up the ante, as her makeup team blended together dark shades not just over the eyelids, but over the lower lashes as well. The result? Makeup that stood out for all the right reasons.

Then it was all about making sure the skin complexion was as pale as possible over at Alexander Wang, in order to let the eyes do the talking. The face was kept minimalistic, and then kohl black pencil eyeliner was used on the eyes to create a smudged look that was both powerful and fierce.

3. Keep It Natural

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation, £30; NARS Highlighting Blush, £23

One of the easier beauty trends to replicate from the AW 17 catwalks is the au naturel trend. In complete contrast to what we’ve already discussed, less is definitely more with this look.

At Lanvin, makeup artists promoted flawless complexions by using a subtle highlighter and then dusting off their models’ faces with matte powder before sending them on their runway.

Then, design houses John Galliano and Burberry decided to take this one step further by using luxury foundation products to showcase a natural, dewy glow. These beauty looks were consequently finished off with a slick of clear lip gloss.

Minimalist, yes; but, effective!

4. Blood Red Lips

Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Crème, Blow, £25;
Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture, 56, £28

Let’s add a touch of goth to the proceedings, shall we? In preparation for Halloween AW17, beauty also brings with it blood red lips—think Dracula.

At Marco De Vincenzo, lips were kept matte which made them even more loud and proud. However, at Giambattista Valli, they were rather two-toned using cherry as the base combined with softer edges in a more primary shade of red.

Why not experiment and mix two shades together? Also, make sure to combine your blood red lips with smokey eyes for a moody, gothic look worthy of Morticia Addams.

5. Pastel Princess

Urban Decay Electric Press Pigment Palette, £38;
MAC Studio Fix Perfecting Powder, Light, £21.50

Feeling makeup that’s a bit more light-hearted this AW17? The pastel trend is here to save you.

It was all about candy eyes at Mary Katrantzou, where paint sticks were used to create texture around the eyes in a range of chalky hues.

Vivienne Westwood followed suit, although she stuck with powder blue as her main shade of choice.

Then, Oscar De La Renta’s models rocked the smokey eye trend and added another layer to it by using pastel hues by the way of lilac, coral, and turquoise.

All of these designers kept their models’ faces looking clean and understated by using matte foundation, which meant that the eyes were left to pop with the colour.

Whether you choose to keep your makeup fun and colourful or go over to the dark side, there are varied trends you can play around with this upcoming AW17 season. No matter what you decide to go for, just make sure you rock your look with a smile, and you are guaranteed to be the most beautiful woman in the room.
