Freddie Mercury lives in the New Trailer for “Bohemian Rhapsody”

Despite the rumored production troubles, a look at the life of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury fascinates me. The musician had an iconic existence, one that could easily be super compelling on screen. Well, this fall, Bohemian Rhapsody will be coming out and hoping to scratch that itch. Ignoring the controversy, this seems like a movie with potential. A new Trailer has dropped for the film, so that’s what we’ll be looking at today. This is a flick that could be a huge deal, or quickly dismissed. In all likelihood, there won’t be an in between. Read on for more, with the Trailer to come at the end of this piece.

This film is, obviously, a biopic about Freddie Mercury, the legendary face of the British rock band Queen. This is the plot synopsis from Twentieth Century Fox: “Bohemian Rhapsody is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury. Freddie defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound. They reach unparalleled success, but in an unexpected turn Freddie, surrounded by darker influences, shuns Queen in pursuit of his solo career. Having suffered greatly without the collaboration of Queen, Freddie manages to reunite with his bandmates just in time for Live Aid. While bravely facing a recent AIDS diagnosis, Freddie leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. Queen cements a legacy that continues to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day.” Malek plays Mercury, with other cast members here including Lucy Boynton, Aidan Gillen, Ben Hardy, Tom Hollander, Joseph Mazzello, Mike Myers, and more. Bryan Singer directs (or at least, directed most of this), with the script being by Anthony McCarten and Peter Morgan. Cinematography is by Newton Thomas Sigel, while John Ottman composes the score and edits.

After a mediocre first Trailer, this one gives some more hope for the movie. At the very least, it puts things on the right track. Mainly, the way Malek seems like a perfect Mercury is what will draw folks in. He’s spot on and really captures the essence of the man. This Trailer especially gives you the idea that this will actually look at his life too. It may not be a full on biopic or a full on musical, but it might interestingly mix the two genres. Plus, Queen music is terrific, so there will be lots of that on hand here.

Oscar very well might take notice of this flick if it can overcome its buzzed about production issues. Twentieth Century Fox will undoubtedly launch a big campaign for it, with categories like Best Picture, Best Director (for Singer), Best Actor (for Malek), Best Supporting Actor (for Myers), Best Original Screenplay (for McCarten and Morgan), Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, Best Makeup & Hairstyling, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Original Score, and Best Visual Effects. Singer isn’t going to happen, and might not even be campaigned in Director, but Malek will be front and center in the Actor race.

Momentarily, you’ll be able to look at the brand spanking new Bohemian Rhapsody Trailer. Between now and early November, when it hits theaters, Malek will be buzzed about as a major Best Actor contender. Hell, he might even be a potential winner. Twentieth Century Fox is thrilled about that too, as it keeps its focus on the movie. Give the Trailer a look and sit tight, as this film is going to be ubiquitous once the late fall comes around. If you like Queen, this should be right up your alley. Behold the Trailer next, in all of its musical biopic glory…
