Final Trailer for “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” takes the franchise in a new direction

HOLLYWOOD HEROES™:
Yesterday afternoon, a new and final Trailer hit the web for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the middle chapter of a second Jurassic Park trilogy. The last film was a box office juggernaut like few before it, so plenty of eyes were on this one. In addition to just being a giant blockbuster sequel for 2018, it also still had a bit of mystery about it. Well, now we’ve got a look at more of the movie and there’s a lot of surprises to be found within. In fact, it seems like we won’t be getting more of the same, but instead something rather new for the sci-fi franchise.

The film is a sequel to Jurassic World and the next installment of the Jurassic Park franchise. This is the IMDb synopsis, which reveals a bit more about the plot: “Four years after the Jurassic World theme park was closed down, Owen and Claire return to Isla Nubar to save the dinosaurs when they learn that a once dormant volcano on the island is active and is threatening to extinguish all life there. Along the way, Owen sets out to find Blue, his lead raptor, and discovers a conspiracy that could disrupt the natural order of the entire planet. Life has found a way, again.” Initially, it seemed like the flick would follow Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Wearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) as they headed back to the island of Isla Nubar to save the remaining dinosaurs from an active volcano. Well, it seems like that’s only the half of it. From there, they discover a plan to capture the surviving dinosaurs in order to create trained predators to use as weapons. So, a different rescue mission will be underway. J.A. Bayona directs a script co-written by the brains of Jurassic World, Derek Connolly and Colin Trevorrow. Joining Howard and Pratt are franchise stalwart Jeff Goldblum, alongside the likes of James Cromwell, Toby Jones, Ted Levine, Justice Smith, Rafe Spall, and another series veteran in BD Wong. Cinematography is by Oscar Faura, while the score comes from Michael Giacchino.

This new Trailer highlights the changes that the series will be showcasing. There’s at least one full act on an island filled with dinosaurs, which is pretty much the sweet spot for any Jurassic picture. At the same time, it seems like at least one of the other two acts is set in a very different world. Especially with a theme of this new trilogy being genetically enhanced dinosaurs, putting these monsters in an even more confined space holds many a possibility. Especially with Bayona being in the director’s chair and how talented he is, this could be something new and different in the best way possible. In terms of the franchise, this bodes potentially very well for the final part of the trilogy, which Trevorrow is returning to helm. We should focus on the upcoming installment for now, but just keep this in mind.

You can see the Trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom below. It should do a solid job of selling you on its merits. We’re just about two months away from it hitting theaters on June 22nd, and we can expect it to open big. Especially if it manages to do something different for the franchise, that can only increase interest in what comes next. For the moment, let’s just focus on this fun Trailer and speculate on what the powers that be still aren’t showing us. I for one am excite for this sequel. Late June can’t come soon enough for me…
