Traits Of My Most Successful Weight Loss Clients

Over my last 10 years of being a Winnipeg personal trainer I have trained many types of people.   What I have found is I can quickly tell who will be Successful and who won’t be within a very short period of time.  I will go over some traits that my most successful clients have and what you should be doing yourself if you wish to be successful with your weight loss.

  1. Diet-Since the diet is critical to weight loss there is no negotiation on this part when someone wants to work with me.  Its simple, if they do not want to follow it then I will not accept them.  Now for some people this is a very big adjustment…at first anyways.  Once you get past the first month then it becomes routine and is not that big of a deal at all….you just have to get to that point.  Every Time I meet up with a client one of the first things that I will ask them is how there diet has been since the last time that I seen them.  My most successful clients will be, “its going good, perfect, its getting easier, I feel so much better, etc.”  they are very positive about it and understand that its just the way it is…they just do it, day in and day out.  Now the people who aren’t as successful when I ask them the same questions will be,  “its going good BUT, i slipped up again and just had one bad meal but I’m back on track, I’m not eating enough protein, this diet is so hard, I don’t know how people do this, I’m always hungry, I don’t think I can do this , etc.  The biggest difference is the attitude towards it, the successful people are upbeat about it and happy to be making these decisions to reach their goal while the less successful ones bring negativity to the whole situation…remember this weight loss is all about the mindset.  Adjust it to be like the successful people and you will get there no question about it.
  2. Training- When training people I can tell very quickly who will lose the weight the quickest if their diet is diet is 100%.  These are the people who give it 110% in the gym.  They come there and work hard.  Weight loss programs are hard work, anyone that tells you any different is flat out lying to you.  Pushing out those last reps are painful and you must be mentally tough…but its those last painful reps that give you all the results.  Sure at first a person cannot push themselves that hard, but once you get past the first few weeks your ability to push yourself increases greatly.  You must push yourself and work hard.  My most successful clients will keep pushing and pushing and wont stop until they cannot physically or mentally do any more…and I can tell when this is…its easy to tell by looking at various things as they are performing the exercise.  The people who are less successful will stop the set early once  it starts to get a little difficult.  They will end a set saying they cant do anymore, when it is quite obvious that they can.  These people never reach the zone of maximum fat burning.  You must have the mindset and drive on every set to give it your all.

These are the traits of my most successful clients.  If you want to be one of them do what they do.  They look at weight loss as a challenge, but in a positive way.  The less successful ones look at it like its a challenge that they don’t think they can do.  The bottom line is this to be successful:  Do the diet 100% and go to the gym and bust your ass every time you go and the results will come fast, if you don’t all you will be doing is spinning your wheels in one spot and will not get the results that you want or deserve.
