Spanish Guns: Clementina Bicicleta Carrera

Barcelona is a city of color, and it has always been a center for Spain’s most talented artisans and craftspeople. Pau Tena, the owner, and designer of Clementina Bicicleta, is intent on upholding the city’s bespoke bicycle culture.

Pau has earned himself a strong reputation and following for his skills as both a mechanic and a biomechanic, and has a great respect for the constructeurs of old, which he fervently maintains through his own business with Clementina.

One of Pau’s biggest fans is Ian Walton, photographer and writer for the esteemed road cycling website and magazine Soigneur. Ian is the proud owner of the Clementina featured here today, one of their Carerra models.

The Carrera has a fast geometry but it can still be ridden all day — which Ian regularly does. He’s climbed Pyrenean and Sierra Nevada peaks on it only to be let down, he confesses, by his own legs. He’s also bikepacked on it for a week.

Clementina paints their own frames and Pau takes pride in designing the scheme to reflect both owner and the land upon which they ride. The inspiration for Ian’s Carerra was his ideal holiday destination, the tiny whitewashed Andalusian coastal town of La Caleta — and a homage to his favorite graffiti artist.

Pau is a professional racing biomechanic and mechanic with over ten years working with different teams, including the Spanish National team which most recently won several medals in para-cycling at the World Championships and the Rio Olympics.

The solid silver head badges on each Clementina are forged by a local high-end Spanish artisan jeweler. They’re an appropriate touch for a bike that is already a superb example of Mediterranean engineering and a work of art.
