If those issues apply to you. Then, welcome to the club of Mucus and phlegm  build up. This is a very common problem on people who don’t drink enough water, have problems with inflammation, smoke, and consume excess of caffeine and alcohol.

I have my own share of issues with this, I found a solution that worked perfectly for me and my dieters. Thereupon, last winter, this was on my list of things to write. I have cleared easily my mucus and phlegm. However, when I missed my natural treatments, It always comes back!.

For those of you who don’t know how mucus accumulates in your lungs and throat. Please know, that  your body produces about 1 to 2 litters of mucus per day. Mainly through the glands of your throat. This mucus consist of cells that line the sinus passages, and it performs several important functions. Such as: moistening and cleaning the nasal passages, traps foreign particles, so they don’t filter into the respiratory system. Also fights infection, and humidify the air as we breath it in. Therefore, up to 2 litters of mucus is what your body is allow to produce. Problem is most of us produce a lot more.

These are some of the causes of mucus and phlegm accumulation:

1-Post nasal drip:

This occurs when an excessive amount of mucus accumulates in the nose and throat, causing coughing and congestion.

Cold or flu:

During a cold the respiratory system amps up its production of clear, thin mucus in the nose and back of the throat. When the body starts to react to the virus, the mucus begins to thicken, and turn yellow or green as it tries to protect your body. This is one of the most cold symptoms of the cold or flu virus. Therefore, the reason of your phlegm when spit; turning yellow or green.

Foods: Unfortunately, some foods can cause excess throat mucus, and if you are already dealing with phlegm, the last thing you want to do is add to the problem. Cut off all dairy. These products tend to accumulate mucus in your system. These foods contain protein molecules called casein that increase the secretion of mucus. Cutting off butter, milk, cheese, etc, can reduce dramatically the accumulation of mucus. Along with dairy other foods, such as: caffeine, sugar, salt, and non herbal tea, can create excess of mucus. Soy is one of the most mucus producing plants there is.

Fortunately shapes r in supplements, makes this incredible pancake mix, lactose, gluten and casein FREE!. If you have sinus infection, and are looking for a delicious alternative try that fit mix!

Seasonal allergies: more than  25% of people, compare to last year, are suffering from seasonal allergies. According to the institute of allergies and disease prevention. Such as sneezing, coughing, itchy eyes, and throat mucus. There are many different types of allergens that cause these symptoms depending on the season, and they can manifest anytime. From early winter to summer. Tree and flower pollen are some of the culprits of seasonal allergies, and the symptoms will last until the allergens have dissipated.

So here is 10 natural remedies you can do immediately to clear your mucus, phlegm and sinuses.

1-Pepperment oil. I have been using it for 2 years. And, truly has become a blessing from heaven. I went through some hurdles, trying other nasal products. Peppermint is by far the best. Peppermint oil will thin mucous in the sinus cavities, reduce inflammation, and opens up sinus airways.

How to use Peppermint oil :

a) Steam inhalation: Add 5 drops of peppermint essential oil, and 5 drops of eucalyptus oil to a bowl of boiling water. Put a towel  over your head and breath the hot medicinal stream for 5 or 10 minutes. Until the streams dies down, the healing properties of both oils. Helps to thin mucus, and drain the nasal passages.

b) Apply 2 drop directly under your  nose. Problem with this, is a mild burning sensation. Which to me is nothing, compare to the discomfort of chronic sinuses.

c) Put in your humidifier. Most sinusitis experts agree that adding humidity to the air is good to sinus suffers. The next time you use your humidifier, add a few drops of peppermint oil. This can provide added benefits to open up your lungs. And clear sinus congestion.

2-Eat cayenne pepper. Most spices help to clear phlegm ad mucus. By clearing out the bronchial passages and tubes. If you re not fan of spicy food, try to sprinkle a little cayenne pepper powder in your food, to clear your sinuses.

3-Limit exposure to irritants: such as; household cleaners, Use oregano oil in a diffuser. Or empty sprite bottle. Half water half vinegar, and add 20 drops of organic oregano oil. avoid pain fumes, cigarette smoke. Stop smoking as it irritates the throat and worsen respiratory conditions.

4-Pleurisy root oil. You can try both pills or oil. I personally like the oil. Pleurisy plant. As it’s name indicates, means inflammation of the pleurea, which impairs the lubricant function, and, causes pain when breathing. It is caused by pneumonia and other diseases, of the chest or abdomen. Pleurisy root, will reduce inflammation in the lungs tissues. It is a decongestant of the bronchioles, and improve the overall respiratory system. You can take 20 drops of this oil a day in the morning. Or the capsules as read on bottle.

Same as pleurisi root you can take 10 to 20 drops a day, preferably in the morning before food.

It is a diaphoretic, warms the body and pushes out coldness, and opening the pores, hyssop is perfect for expectorating mucus, it stimulates mucus and enables the lungs to rid of it.

Hyssop Oxymel:

This is a great preparation for winter. Specially if you tend to accumulate excess of mucus in your lungs during this rough season. These preparations combined the stimulating properties of vinegar with soothing qualities of honey. This centuries old preparation is specific for coughs and congestion. Especially when there is lots of mucus stuck in the lungs.
