Who doesn’t love to camp? Camping is a pleasurable time spent in nature that people love to do when they have free time. Are you one of them? Do you ever think of the benefits of camping? Well, this outdoor activity will bring you much more than just relaxation, read on to know more.

Top 7 reasons to go camping

These are the good reasons why you should go camping often.

Managing stress with camping

This is the most obvious reason why people go camping. Nowadays, between our crazy busy schedules and being addicted to technology, we don’t have much time for ourselves. We struggle to do all the things and this is the time when stress kicks in.

Camping in forest for example, reduces stress due to greenery and helps to cope with anxiety and aggression accordingly to USDA Forest Service. Camping in the wilderness is also good for strengthening your immune system and lowering your blood pressure. Makes sense right?

Learn and practice survival skills

Being in the comfort of your home when you have all the tools and appliances for living is easy. However, you will have to improvise when it comes to camping in the outdoors. Campers should take advantage of resources around them to survive.

Let’s say you have to make a campfire to cook a meal. What do you need to set a fire? You will need some tinder, firewood and a lighting source. You can bring a fire starter or matches with you or you can set up a campfire the old fashioned way, without matches or a lighter.

Having a good knife will make your camping easier since you will be able to get tinder, small firewood and serve as an important tool in the wild.

Improve your physical health with camping

Tent camping gives you many opportunities to be active. When you explore the surroundings by foot you have an excellent workout that strengthens bones and muscles, and speeds up the blood circulation at the same time.

Enjoying outdoors lowers the blood pressure due to serotonin being released. It is quite the opposite from sitting in the office and coping with stress and cortisol that is releasing from work overload. There are even camps that help cancer patients and their families to cope with the disease and to reduce disease-related anxiety.

While being out in the sun, you will get vitamin D which helps to absorb calcium and promotes bone growth. Moreover, it has a function to regulate immune and neuromuscular system. Still, avoid direct sunlight in the middle of the day when the sun is the hottest.

Improve mental health through camping

I see camping as a relaxing outdoor activity that makes me forget on all the obligations and worries. As I mentioned before, staying in nature reduces anxiety and makes us calm. It is a recommended activity for those who face depression and sleeping issues. Fresh air, lots of activity and being exposed to the natural rising and setting of the sun, and total darkness at night will help you sleep better while nature will take care of your soul.

Social benefits of camping

You can camp alone or with other people. Camping with others helps to improve social skills while you hang out in a totally different environment without cell phones to distract. It is also a good time to reconnect with people and family members to whom you didn’t talk for some time. I am sure you will reconnect easily with anyone due to the relaxing environment.

Making time for fun camping activities

When do you have time to play games with your children or to hang out with your friends? Camping with your loved ones is a great opportunity to enjoy in each other’s company. Playing games and sports that you almost forgot will bring you closer and also bring nice memories from your youth.

There are lots of games that you can play; from card games or board games (monopoly, chess, etc.) to popular camping games (duck, duck goose, scavenger hunt, telling stories, etc.). If you bring a ball you can have a football match, or just play ball with your kids.

Learning about native plants and animals

You can learn by observing nature and animals that live in the area. If you camp with your family, take your kids in the forest and observe the animals. You can bring along a book of birds and other animals and you can have a nature-nerd learning session.

By watching them you will also see how they manage to live and what they do to survive. Maybe bird watching or tracking animals will help you pass the time while camping as well.

Is camping the best outdoor activity?

You can see how beneficial camping is to you. These are the most obvious benefits of camping among others that will bring you peace and satisfaction. However, plan the trip and take the essentials camping gear you’ll need for your group.

If you will bring the necessities on a camping trip, you will be able to enjoy it to the fullest. And remember, go camping in a good mood and with a smile on your face and you will have a great camping experience which you will remember for a long time.
