Should you start CrossFit?

To answer that question I need first to tell you the story on how I started Crossfit. At that time I was probably 3 months way from my trip to Kilimanjaro and I was full steam into my training, 3x per week at the gym and 2x per week running. One weekend I took a break, direction Portugal for the stag do of one of my best friend. The first activity was an initiation to CrossFit (why not?). A CrossFit session last 1 hour with a warm-up, a skill development session and a very high intensity work out called the "WOD" (work out of the day). The work out will usually combined heavy weight lifting and cardio. It's like the mix-martial art of working out.
My first initiation was quite embarrassing. I felt weak, out of breath with a technique and form inexistent. I wasn't the only one, my friend (the stag) hurt his leg and could barely walk for the rest of the weekend.
Back in London I couldn't stop thinking about this pathetic episode which made me reconsider my level of fitness. I have been to the gym on and off for many years and I was in a good shape but CrossFit defeated me so I decided that this is what I should do.
If you always stick to the same thing you will ultimately become good at it and  it might feel very comfortable but the progression curve will plateau. I like to get out of my comfort zone and wider my skills.
I found a CrossFit box close to where I live and decided to go 2x a week until my trip to Kilimanjaro. I have to be honest it's very Intense and suck up a lot of your energy which can be a struggle when you work full time. The results however were obvious. I took on 2.5kg of muscle in 2 months and could complete the WODs without dying every time.
There are few reasons why I think CrossFit is great:
-Your get the best of both world, cardio and strength.
-It's very intense and short so perfect for people with a busy life.
-You are in group and you don't want to be the last one finishing so it makes you work harder.
What are the problems with CrossFit:
-It's super intense and demanding so you can feel tired during day.
-You have to be very careful with your form or you can be injured.
-You need a very good diet.
So should you start CrossFit? Only if you are the type of person that like to push yourself to the limit. If you feel that you are not really progressing at the gym and need your fitness to step up then give it a try!
