The Mentality of a Runner

There is something inherent in Running that makes it special. Something about it that makes it virtually irresistible. Running has a certain type of magic that allows you to enjoy the pain involved. To outsiders it seems strange, hard, and terrible. How do people enjoy this sport? Perhaps they believe that it takes a crazy person to become a Runner, or just a great athlete. Maybe we are a little bit crazy, but the special thing is, there is a runner inside of everyone. Anyone can be a runner. It doesn't matter if you can run a mile in under four minutes, or can barely jog a lap on the track without fighting for air. None of that matters. Almost everyone on earth has the potential to be runner. What makes a runner different is the mentality. Running is not a sport in which you compete with others, but don't let that trick you, it is the most competitive sport in the world. It involves a competition with yourself, an opponent that you can never beat. However, it is an opponent you can control. If you can learn to control your mind. If you can learn to push yourself to new limits and force yourself to do what you previously thought was impossible, then you have become a runner. Being a runner is not about physical strength, rather it is a mental game. Being a runner is not for just anyone but the mental aspect behind it should be an aspiration for everyone.
