This week has been a good week.

This week I have stuck to my training plan. I have dragged my arse out of bed at 6am to go to the gym or go for a run. I have come home at 6pm, got changed and gone back out for a run. I have persevered through the rain, the wind and the dark. I have battled with the urge to turn my alarm off and stay in bed.

I may not have ran far. Heck, my weekly mileage equals someone’s daily mileage, but I don’t care. Because it’s my runs, it’s my mileage and I did it.

And I feel so much better for it! I have so much more energy, I feel more awake, I don’t feel as sluggish as I used to and I don’t find myself reaching for the biscuit tin at 3pm. This week I haven’t needed to monitor my food, I’ve naturally made healthier choices and I haven’t had my usual cravings. My portion sizes have reduced to a normal person’s size and my snacks have gone from 20 a day to 2.

Monday was my usual 3 mile circuit, Wednesday was a 5 mile ‘long’ run and Friday Morning was a short 2 mile recovery run. Unfortunately, my Fitbit is having regular paddies at the moment so some of my runs are missing sections, others are broken up into 3 separate runs and it decided to turn off completely on my last run – I really did run 2 miles, I promise!

I’m still struggling to run in the mornings. Every stride feels harder than my evenings run but I will persevere. My body needs to learn to use fat supplies differently and the only way that will happen is if I continue to do a morning run. I don’t enjoy them as much so I’m not going to push them; I will do one a week, any more is a bonus J  This is a personal goal and by the end of the this year, I would really like to be able to do a 6 mile run in the morning, fingers crossed!

Next week is going to be very similar in terms of runs but I’m going to try and increase the distance. Monday will be my long run and I’m aiming to do between 6-8 miles. Wednesday will be my standard 3 mile run and Friday Morning will hopefully be the same 3 miles. The difference between these two sessions is my focus; Wednesday will be focused on speed whereas Friday will be a lower recovery run with the distance being the goal J

How has everyone else’s running week been?

When’s your next race?
