Pininfarina Previews $2 Million Electric Hypercar

The Germany-based start-up, Automobili Pininfarina, a spin-off of the 88-year old Italian design house and owned by Indian car maker Mahindra & Mahindra, teased images of an “electric hypercar” concept this weekend. It revealed three sketches of the futuristic electric car codenamed PF0 (read PF Zero), astronomically priced at $2 million, at Formula E meeting in New York.

The European automobile company has disclosed the images of the electric hypercar so to give an exciting preview to its prospective owners (read richest of the richest), said Automobili Design Director Luca Borgogno. Pininfarina will then hold private, strictly by-invitation-only previews of the actual PF0 during the annual Pebble Beach Concours organized at Monterey, California in August 2018.

Others have to wait till 2019 Geneva Motor Show to sneak peek into $2 million electric hypercar. The stunning electric hypercar will get into production by then and will be available for sale during the second half of 2020.

Meta Performance Capacities of Electric HyperCar

The teased pictures of PF0 portray a two-seater, low-height carbon-fiber coupe encased with glass roof stretching from front to back. The headlights of PF0 extend out at the front in a lean architecture.

Unlike mass electric car pioneer, Tesla’s electric car design wherein everything is installed with the battery under the floor, Pininfarina’s electric hypercar will get a big central tunnel, positioned between the driver and the passenger, informed Borgogno. This design of futuristic electric SUV is tweaked in view of its high-profile status.

PF0 will integrate four electric motors, producing 2000 horsepower and which will accelerate the car from 0 to 60 miles per hour (mph) in under two seconds. The maximum speed at which the electric hypercar could fly is 250 mph. In nuts, all that PF0, the electric hypercar speaks about is “speed”.

Once PF0 hits the road, it will have a driving range of 310 miles on a single charge, notes Michael Perschke, Automobili Pininfarina CEO. In addition, it will get 80 percent charged within 10-15 minutes.

He also added that Nick Heidfeld, the former Formula One and Formula E racer, would also join the PF0 team of  as a development driver from the start of 2019.

Further, the premium automaker is not looking forward to develop its own internal system. In fact, it is in talks with tech companies like Apple, Google, and Salesforce to collaborate on completing the supercar, reports The Verge.

Eight decades experience

Automobili Pininfarina boasts an experience of over 8 decades it has originated from an Italian automobile design house responsible for designing iconic car models like Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia, Cadillac Allenté and almost all Ferraris.

India-based Mahindra bought Pininfarina for $185 million in 2015, post, global financial debacle. The new owner divided the business into two – created a new entity called Automobili Pininfarina - an automaker and retained Pininfarina SpA as a design firm.

Reaping the heritage, Mahindra & Mahindra’s new European subsidiary aims to click the right nodes of building a rare, luxurious, elite, unapologetic masterpiece – electrified supercar - on the first go.
