Health and wellness is not just for middle-aged women

When you think of Health, wellness, detox and good nutrition, most people come up with a stereotype in their heads that it’s just for middle to middle and upper class women aged 35-50, who have lots of time and money to spend on their bodies.

This is far from the truth, people of all ages and walks of life are getting more and more interested in Healthy Living, and with good reason too! It’s time we stopped seeing health as a luxury, but as a basic human need and right instead.

Health and wellness for children

In my opinion, any changes we wish to see in the world should start today with our children. I can’t stress enough how important it is to start young when teaching our kids about health, fitness and good nutrition.

I began taking care of my body when I got into boxing, which I wrote about here. In hopes to give a better life to children who may not be fortunate enough to go to good schools, I set up a charity, which aims to bring physical education to children in Latin and South America. I believe that kids who play sports are happier, more confident and have a more positive mindset, and of course, proper nutrition goes side by side.

Health and wellness for men

It’s a gross misconception that men don’t care about their bodies or their health. We may not always show it, but we also like to eat food that’s good for us and even go to a spa every now and then. There you go, I’ve admitted it.

I’m certainly not the only man to feel this way. There are some great examples of men propagating healthy living, from active speakers like David Wolfe to Joe the Juicer who inspired millions of people through his documentary “Fat, sick and nearly dead”.

It’s common for us to see male chefs all around the world, and many men get into healthy living through their career. Many doctors are also discovering ways of healing their patients in natural ways, though diet, exercise and perhaps the occasional organic supplement.

Health and wellness for the elderly

I know some amazing examples of men and women over 70 years old who are healthier than many 30 year olds. A friend of mine has a grandmother who is 80 this year. When she was 75, she had 10 different pills given to her by her doctor, that she was supposed to take everyday for the rest of her life. One day, she started doing yoga, got into raw food and after a month threw out all of her pills. She hasn’t taken any medication since, still eats raw food, stands on her head and travels all around the world by herself.

And she’s not the only one. If we believe that we can’t show the older generation “new tricks” then they may not change. But if we encourage them to take a step onto a healthier path, they can greatly improve their wellbeing and live a long and happy life. Who says we have to be ill and take pills when we’re older?

Health and wellness for the ill

The above is a good example for this category, but there are also a lot of young people who seek the help of health and wellness specialists due to problems with their health. Alternative medicine may not be for everyone, but it certainly has shown results in many people. Good nutrition, physical activities and a bit of self care can do amazing things for the body and mind, and it’s certainly worth a try in my opinion. I personally know of people who have cured diabetes, candida and allergies through their diet alone.

Health and wellness for economically challenged

Most people think that being healthy is only for the rich and famous, but this doesn’t have to be that way. If you think about it, people from the West pay thousands of euros to go rub themselves in mud for a week, or to do a fast, or a week on kitcheree. Some of these things are naturally available for free in certain countries, so my advice is, use your environment to the max.

For example, if you know you have a sulphur lake close by, take your family there for a spa day. Think eating healthy food is more expensive? Find other ways to get fresh fruits and vegetables. Did you know that many farms actually give away food that hasn’t been collected by their machines? Sometimes a vegetable is too crooked to be sold to the supermarkets, so all you need to do is help pick it up from their fields and it’s yours to keep!
