Are You Concerned Artificial Intelligence Replace Jobs?

Most people express more concern than excitement about advances in robotics and Artificial Intelligence. Even though people expect various positive outcomes from these developments, they feel uneasy about the replacement of entire jobs currently done by humans. Their attitudes more frequently reflect the implications of these technologies for society at large.

Advances in robotics and Artificial intelligence have the potential to automate a wide range of human activities and to dramatically reshape the way we live and work in the coming decades. It is clear that today's career paths, and for future generations, will be forever changed due to the introduction of artificial intelligence (Al).

I belong to the Baby Boomers generation. When I was a kid, one of my favourite cartoons was "The Jetsons." From that early age, I welcome the idea of being part of those advanced technologies and I am pleased that it is playing a growing role in our lives.

However, there is another group of people who are not that comfortable with the new AI or technology, they feel it is invading their privacy and that human-robot interaction can be even more complicated.

Regardless of which side of the conversation you are on, we cannot ignore the fact the AI will have a significant impact on our lives in the upcoming years. Let's look at a few examples of how AI is changing our day-to-day life.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE MONITORS BANK TRANSACTIONS

Consider the number of credit cards in circulation. It will take hours for employees to sift through thousands of transactions. Financial institutions often use AI to monitor operations. It spots patterns in your purchases and alert users to suspicious activity.

I find this facility very convenient. On numerous occasions, our banks have been at the top of all our movements. We have bank cards from different countries, and the banks have always been monitoring our transactions. They quickly send us a message to confirm if it has been us before they process the payment. It might seem inconvenient at times, but on the other hand, it could save a lot of money in the long term.

TRANSPORTATION

Autonomous cars are no longer a technological dream. Uber and Lyft are both working on self-driving technology. GPS navigation software company Waze (which was acquired by Google in 2013) quietly released a new app called CarPool that converts its 50-plus million users into drivers and allows users to commute to work together for a fee. Waymo (formerly the Google self-driving car project) recently reached 5 million miles driven on public roads.

Perth, where I live, has its first driverless on-demand car. The RAC unveiled the prototype vehicle - the first in Western Australia and one of the first in the world. It is being trialled in South Perth and includes a chaperone who is able to manually stop the car if needed. The vehicles can carry up to six people and have a maximum speed of 90km/h, although they are likely to be capped at 50km/hr during the trial.

In reported incidents so far, drivers have collided with self-driving cars because the autonomous cars stuck so rigidly to the rules of the road. Artificial intelligence could elevate them beyond simple programming to better evaluate the situation on the road in real time, apply what they've learned in previous cases and make better decisions.

PERSONALIZED LEARNING

It suggests a variety of educational programs where the learners can approach education at their own pace. It is tailored to their specific interests and preferences. AI can adjust to the individual flow of learning and as the learners progress it can offer more complex tasks to accelerate learning. Students can continue their education fast or slow at their own rhythm.

This has been a critical factor for me. I used to find maths difficult. One day I was reading an article from Richard Branson who happened to recommend the Khan Academy. Thanks to this academy I have been polishing my maths skills, and the beauty of it is that I can learn at my own pace.

Khan Academy is a non-profit educational organisation created in 2005 by Salman Khan with the goal of creating a set of online tools that help educate students. The organisation produces short lessons in the form of YouTube videos. Its website also includes additional practice exercises and materials for educators.

In the long term, there will be no limit to what AI can accomplish. But one of the things that excite more about the world today is that thanks to the technology, we have the facility to educate ourselves from many different individuals from all over the world.

Through the internet, I stumbled across this person who helped me change the direction of my life about a year ago. I didn't know her personally, but I am grateful I had that opportunity.

This kind of opportunity didn't exist before. Back in the day, we did what we were told through traditional education and systems. The world is changing, and the scary part is that futurists predict that by 2040 half of the jobs that exist in the world today will disappear and replaced by artificial intelligence.

It might sound scary to many persons to accept that we live in a digital economy but the reality is that there is more opportunity right now that has ever been before. There are great opportunities to create a career for yourself to earn an income doing something that provides you with purpose and passion and drive, something that gives you freedom and flexibility through this fantastic technology.

You do not need to be a technical genius or a computer programmer. Opportunity is there for us all. Just imagine not being tied to an office, answering to a boss or commuting in traffic.

Your circumstances might be very different from mine. I am a carer for my husband and offer support to our middle son who has MS. So it is essential for me to have this freedom and flexibility so when the opportunity presented to me to learn new skills, change the way I think and create a vision for myself that far exceeded anything I have ever dreamt possible I jumped to the challenge.

May I ask if you can change the way you think, embrace to the world we are living right now, be excited about the life you can create, what would you do?

If you are looking for an educational system that enables you to learn new skills without going to school or university to re-educate yourself and learn ways to start earning while you are learning, then I invite you to take a look at this free training to hear about education opportunities for creating an online business

Whatever you decide, I would love to hear your ideas on artificial intelligence in the comments below.

With much appreciation
