Festive season fetches lots of happiness and enthusiasm in our lives. The grand celebration with family and friends make the entire season memorable for every individual. Most importantly, in such celebrations; people tend to forget their bitterness and sorrow and greet each other with warm heart and positive feelings; thus making the entire environment cheerful. So, if you flip the pages of your calendar, it wouldn’t be hard to recognize that it’s the month of December and the forthcoming festival is Christmas.

Yes, every year CHRISTMAS is celebrated on 25th of December.

Are you excited for Christmas? Yes, why not! Moreover, it’s a holiday time. Some days of break from schools and colleges are always amusing. We get time to go out and have fun with friends and family. Most importantly, when its Christmas time, the happiness and excitement automatically doubles up.

So, what is the most interesting thing about Christmas? Shopping, friends, relatives, decoration and good food, right. We enjoy, we have fun, and some of us even throw a grand Christmas party as well. Overall, we end up celebrating Christmas in our own ways. But still there are lots of common things that we do, like; decorating our home, beautifying the Christmas tree, preparing good food, exchanging gift (Christmas Gift Ideas at an Affordable Price), visiting friends and relatives, spending time with family, dressing up in the red and white dress of Santa Claus, singing Jingle Bell and many more.

Though we have different ways of celebrating this festival, the most unusual events of Christmas can be observed and enjoyed in Australia. Yes, Australian people celebrate Christmas quite differently than any other countries. So, I have picked out 5 fascinating facts about Australian Christmas.

You will surely find it interesting to see the creative yet a joyful Christmas Celebration in Australia.

1. Contrary Temperature in Australia:

During Christmas, winter hits most of the nations worldwide. Some countries experience snow-fall during Christmas, whereas in others cold waves with lower degree temperature can be experienced. But the case is different for Australians. They experience contrary temperature. Since Australia lies in the Southern Hemisphere; it has summer rather than winter. Yes, it’s the onset of summer in some countries whereas in other countries of Australia; the temperature may rise up to 30°C. So, we can say that Australian celebrate warmer Christmas. How cool it is right, when rest of the nation is enjoying Christmas with a snowman and fire-woods; Australian Prefer visiting the beach, taking sunbathe and making sand-man.

2. Christmas Carol:

Christmas is never complete without a Christmas Carol. So, in a snowy weather, people sing Christmas Carol by sitting around burning firewood on Christmas Eve. But for Australians, the temperature is already sunny and warm. So, instead of firewood they prefer lightening candles and singing Christmas carol at dusk or particularly at night when the sky is full of stars and bright lights. Some lines of Christmas carol are also modified by Australian people.

Celebration without a good food is never complete. In earlier days, traditional hot and cooked dinner was served during Christmas in Australia but now there is a change in the menu. Australian people enjoy eating cold food that mainly includes: cold turkey, seafood like prawn and salad. Along with this; gingerbread, custard, Roast chicken are also served. Hence, the food during Christmas is usually served cold due to the hot weather of Australia. Some prefer doing this with a family setting up barbeques in the lawn or park whereas others enjoy it at the beach in a large gathering.

4. Swimming Suit rather than Warm Clothes:

Yes, amazing isn’t it. Most of the population goes to the beach in their swimming suits and shorts. The sunny climate turns on their mood and they are happy surfing and taking sunbathe. Moreover, the atmosphere of Christmas looks bright where people wear hats and sunglasses. Yes, one noticeable thing is that though people dress up coolly, the colour of their clothes generally is red and white just like a Santa Clause.

5. Boxing Day:

After a Great Christmas event, it’s time for sports in Australia. Yes, Boxing Day is celebrated next day after the Christmas. Cricket and racing are two famous sports organize on this event. National and International level team takes part in this event and it continues up to 5 days. So, if you like sport, you can go to this event but in case you are not sport friendly, you can go out for shopping for the entire year. Yes, after Christmas and right from the Boxing Day, the prices for every item gets lowered. But it’s the stock that is left unsold at the time of Christmas, so if you are planning for a shopping even after Christmas, this is the right time for you.

Though Christmas is celebrated differently in Australia, these changes are all made in order to adapt with the environmental condition. Surprisingly, this reminds me of Darwin’s theory of adaptation. Don’t you think the way Australian people celebrate Christmas connects us back to Darwin’s theory on adaptation. If you recall his research and findings; he mentioned that species adapt according to the environmental condition. All the above points clarifies that when rest of the world is celebrating Christmas under snow fall and cold weather, Australian’s have bought some creative changes in their Christmas celebration to adapt with the atmosphere of their place.

Moreover, the hot weather doesn’t stop people from having fun and gala time during the holidays. But never to forget that, beside enjoyments and having fun, festivals can be really memorable and gratifying if we add happiness to others life. Yes, helping the needy ones, doing charitable works and caring for our loved ones can add-on to our happiness especially during the time of festivals.
