Academic Essay is the genre of academic Writing on which a student is evaluated at times. This genre of writing is slightly different from the general concept of essay writings in the facts that that academic essays are written following certain rules and norms. As on this technique of writing a student’s grade is dependent, it is necessary to handle the writing with own words as much as possible in correct English, so that the results come in high colors.

• Picking up a Topic –

Deciding the Topic on which the essay should be written on is the initial step; at times the institutes provide the topic themselves. Whether the student is given a topic or is entitled to choose by his own, the fact that whether the essay would contain a general overview or a narrowed down topic with emphasis on a single fact has to be considered thoroughly. If it is decided that a narrowed down topic is to be written on, then whether it has enough literary sources or not is to be seen with great emphasis as references and research are two important things in academic writings. A topic is to be chosen on which the student has interest on because writing and researching on a topic which is an extensive process should be enjoyed if it is considered as interesting by the researcher.

• Preparing the draft

To write a successful essay a proper arrangement of the thought or a plan of the total writing is important. Thus, a proper structure is to be done with the basic points on how the flow of the paper would be and this would eventually help in preparing the complete paper. This being the foundation for writing the essay; the main headings and subheadings are to be formulated so that while writing the essay no main topic is left undiscussed.

• The main objective of the essay should be the research question and it should be carefully formulated. This should be a reflection by reading which an individual can understand what the complete essay would be discussing or trying to prove.

The essay’s body is the major part of the academic writing which includes all the most important topics. This section describes, explains, argues and reflects all the topics and connects with one another. Beginning with the introductory sentence on the topic of each heading in the body, supporti99ng concepts are to be followed.  Other information from other sources is discussed to link between topics or subheads.

• Writing the Introduction

It is best to write the introduction after the body of the essay is written. The manner in which the introduction is to be written should reflect or gain the attention of the reader; this should be so engaging that would attract the reader to continue reading the paper. Providing a quote or a shocking fact related the topic can call for the reader’s attention.

• Conclusion

In the conclusion a summary of the overall discussion is to be given with a review of the main topics explained and argued
