ARE YOU READY TO LIVE IN AN AUTOMATED WORLD?

# All things connected
The Internet of things- (IoT) is a proposed development of the Internet in which everyday objects have Network Connectivity, allowing them to send and receive data. It refers to situations where network connectivity and computing capability extends to objects, sensors and everyday items not normally considered computers, allowing these devices to operate with minimal human intervention. In short, anything and everything will now be connected.
# Age of intelligence
We are heading towards an intelligent environment with smart cities and intelligent buildings. Consumer electronics and automobiles will all be brainy devices. Cars will get self-driven and there is no function that electronics will not be able to perform. Be it energy services, the manufacturing sector, agriculture or health management, all will be dominated by connectivity creating intelligent enterprises.
# Technology
Innovative solutions to problems have come up in the digital age and much more are on the way. For instance, RFID is used widely in transport and logistics and everybody is connected with WiFi. Most new smartphones have the barcode reader and ZigBee is used to create personal area networks that enable small scale projects. Sensors alongwith mobile technology are used for various purposes like traffic monitoring, Security Issues etc. The Jawbone UP that recommends changes in lifestyle and autobots that alert relatives in case of an accident are other examples.
# Web of things
Fully automated lives will be achieved through a universal protocol that would combine several heterogeneous devices. The protocol will be simple, flexible, scalable and standard. Apart from the widely accepted protocols like HTTP, TCP etc., protocols like URI and XML will be used for easy identification and communication. The complicated web will be untangled to simplify daily life and commercial environment.
# Application
Be it a house, an office, a public place, a moving vehicle or the virtual world, IoT will be applied everywhere. Consider the scenario of automated shopping. It will let the clothes introduce themselves, scanners will identify clothing tags, the microchip of credit card will communicate with the checkout reader and reader will tell the staff to put a new one when moving goods. Sounds bizarre isn’t it?
# Challenges
The society will be to test while dealing with rapid innovations. More than that It will be a challenge for Governments around the world. The already free world of the internet or digital era which has lose controls will become more free and a challenge to governance. Numerous privacy and security issues will arise and technological standardization will be key to maintaining systems. Moreover, a health threat will emerge with devices entering every aspect of our lives, as far as, being attached to the human body.
# The Future
It is estimated that there will be as many as 100 billion connected IoT devices and a global economic impact of more than $11 trillion by 2025. Nearly $6 trillion will be spent on IoT solutions over the next five years. Businesses will benefit with reduced operational cost, increased productivity and expansion. Consumers will purchase a massive number of devices and invest a significant amount of money in IoT ecosystems. There will be relationships between objects, humans and environment.
