Red Teaming: How Your business Can Conquer the Competition by Challenging Everything Book Review

Summary

This book is all about the concept of Red Teaming. Starting after the Yom Kippur war in Isreal, the Israeli government made a decision to make sure the army would be as safe as they can from enemy attack. The only way to accomplish this was to stay one step ahead of the surrounding countries. They have established a concept called Red Teaming and it seems to have worked.

Red Teaming is a way for leaders to have an objective and subjective meetings formulating solid plans. As they are collaborating, a person, or team of people, will be in charge of pointing out flaws, strengths, and defects so the leaders can re-evaluate and make a plan that is as solid as possible. While every plan has flaws, this is a way to get to know your competition, bringing it into your own office executing a plan as effective and efficient as possible.

Pros

After reading this book on Red Teaming, I see the importance of having a plan and doing it right. As a person, we often get distracted by our own plan. This book helps you keep on an open mind and come to a conclusion based on a bigger picture.

Cons

Red Teaming is a great idea and I think every company, both big and small, should have a Red Team as part of their day to day routine. However, after reading this book, I felt like I love the ideas, but it did not give me ideas on how to implement a Red Team. There was a lot of history and examples but little substance. Many smaller businesses and bloggers may not have the ability to start a Red Team.

My Overall Opinion

If you are a large business and have extra to spend, Red Teaming is a must. If you are a small business and can take out a partial loan to implement Red Teaming, do it. If you are a blog or starting a business, set aside a budget. Even if it is once in a few years, your company will see the value of having a Red Team as part of your growth.
