I have so many animals books for kids. While most of them have a cat, dog, and lion, a few have unique animals. I have seen a koala in one, but very few have differentiation. The kids were very pleased when I read Unusual Animals A-Z to them.
Unusual Animals A-Z Book Review
Book Review
Unusual Animals A-Z looks like a typical kids book. Every page has a letter on it with an animal to match the sound. However, what makes this book very different is that all of the animals are not what kids are used to hearing about. Some of the animals include a Dingo, Lemur, and Sun Bear. As the children read this book, it combines both fun facts along with silly sentences. The combination of fact and fiction makes this book super attractive and fun for the kids to read.
The illustrations are also great. They go well with the letters and complete the text. The animals themselves are fairly simple, but leave enough room for the imagination. A great introduction for kids to ask questions and learn more.
Compare and Contrast
At first, some of the animals in Unusual Animals A-Z may sound familiar. For example, the Jarubu Stalk. Many kids know about stalks. Before reading, ask them what they know about stalks. After reading about this unique stalk, see if they learned something new. Be prepared, this might lead to a small research or project.
Phonics Warning
If you are using Unusual Animals A-Z to teach beginning letter sounds, I have to warn you this book is not phonetically correct. For A, they use A is for Aardvark. The AR blend is not something to teach kids letter recognition and beginning sounds.
My Overall Opinion
The kids enjoyed listening to me read Unusual Animals A-Z. This is a very cute book. The animals are nice and friendly. The small paragraphs are both fun and educational. A cute kids book.
