Points to remember while shopping with children

It’s that time of year when mega sale has kicked off on your favorite brand, but as a mother of two you are apprehensive to go on a Shopping spree along with your kids. Any parent would know how difficult it is to shop with children. For mothers, it is truly one of the happiest errands to shop leisurely in the market without burden of handling kids. Thinking it to be a cumbersome job; parents avoid taking their kids along or they just put off their shopping trips. Parents struggle in establishing shopping rules for children, which are most of the time broken or not followed at all by kids. Here's how you can take your toddler to shopping and maybe even have some fun! Some basic shopping guidelines you must follow:
  • Take care of their needs:  When shopping with children, take care of their needs. They might be tired, hungry, overexcited by the noise and confusion, or simply need fresh air.
  • Special care for Infants:  Shopping with an infant is not easy. It is better to plan a trip only after they have slept and have been fed properly. It is likely that small children, especially infants might feel dehydrated in the dry air of shopping malls for long hours. Make sure you feed them with frequent juice and water breaks in between.
  • Make them feel comfortable: Small children are most comfortable when carried in a sling or carrier worn by parents usually. It provides children more emotional security than in a stroller or grocery cart. Carrying a small toy to keep toddler busy is also a good idea. Hug and speak to your child gently after short breaks that will further comfort your child.
  • Shopping trip can make children curious: When you go out to shop, children generally get very curious with things and people around. They will naturally get attracted towards appealing items and will want to examine them. Don’t scold them. Rather, explain it politely to them to not to mishandle or help them to hold the item safely, or let them know that it can be viewed but not touched.
  • Have a word: Have a small talk with the kid, before entering the store.  Tell them things that are important for example, "Stay close to me," "Use your quiet voice," and "No begging for candy." etc
  • Reward good behavior: Always make it a point to reward good behavior, when you go for shopping. Buy candy or his favorite snack, when you go for shopping. This will truly boost up the kid to behave same next time.
Hope these shopping tips will change shopping experience from potential misery to potential mastery of shopping with kids.
