Hundreds of Divers Submerge At The 2018 Florida Underwater Music Festival To Highlight Responsible Diving

There are Music festivals and there is The Underwater Music Festival. Imagine the surprise to hear that a music festival takes place underwater.

After watching the news of the festival on TV4 Monde Afrique, it is time to share about it. From research, the underwater music festival is meant to create environmental awareness.

Though it involves playing music under the ocean, and also encouraging environmentally responsible diving for the coral reef protection. The festival is a means to create awareness on the need to protect the reef and how to enjoy the reef while minimizing the negative environmental impacts on the reef. The Looe Reef of Florida is part of the world’s third-largest living coral barrier reef.

Hundreds of divers from around the world gathered on the 7th of July 2018 to celebrate by playing instruments under the water. The divers wear costumes like mermaids for example in order to play instruments underwater.

It is a yearly festival and the one in Florida this year is its 35th edition. It was started by a marine biologist who later became a radio broadcaster called Bill Becker. He said that hearing music underwater is an interesting experience because you can feel it around you.
