Happy World Environment Day 2018!

This year's theme is "Beat Plastic Pollution" The world is coming together this year to fight single-use plastic in India. This year's hashtag is #BeatPlasticPollution

World Environment Day is a campaign created  by the United Nations (UN) to address environmental problems every 5th of June. It was created in 1974. Each year a theme is chosen to enable people know about daily environmental issues.

Each year there is a host country for the event and this year it is in India.

This year's theme is very important because every year, up to 13 million tons of plastic leak into our oceans, and it threatens marine wildlife as reported by the World Environment Day site. It is predicted that in years to come there will be more plastics in the ocean than marine animals.

Plastic is also harmful to our health as it contaminates our food and water when it's not properly disposed.
