What is a Database?

A Database is a collection of data or information specially organised in order to rapid search it, for it to be easily accessible, to easily retrieve it and also in order to update it easily.


Databases are meant to ease storage and management of information. It is Organized in such a way that we can select the data we need with ease.

It is organized in rows, columns and tables and it is indexed to make it easy to find relevant information. 

Th information collected from the database can be in the electronic form, on paper, in the form of a graph, a statistic or an audio.

A database manager enables us to organise, control, read and access data.

The database is stored as fields, records and files. Database can be a simple list of names and addresses or a complex combination of various information which have relationships between them like population data which comprises of name, age, occupation, location, marital status, etc
