How To Save Electricity (Cooking)

 Bismillahirrahmanirrahim

Assalammualaikum wbt.
[Head chef walks in] “Okay, you guys can stop Cooking now.”
“But boss, our customers are waiting for their Food out there. We have to be quick!”
“Didn’t you hear me? Our Earth is dying because of us. We are using way too much energy, causing way too much damage to our Earth!”

Hypocrite! Go back to your work chefs, your customers are getting hotter faster than our Earth, being energy-efficient doesn’t mean that you can’t cook. You shouldn’t starve yourself to death to save the Earth. That’s not the right way! These are the right ways.

  • Use a microwave rather than an Oven, range or toaster whenever possible
  • Choose small appliances over big one such as a toaster oven, electric oven, electric teapot, rice cooker
  • Cover the pans when cooking to keep the heat in
  • Turn off the burner or oven before the food is completely cooked
  • Use a pressure cooker whenever possible. It speeds up the cooking process
  • Cook in batches, cook as much as possible in the oven in one go to make sure all the space and heats is being used. You can always freeze the portion of meals to warm up at a later date
  • Defrost the frozen food before cooking it, defrosting it in advance typically halves the cooking time which will use less energy than cooking frozen food
  • Use as little water as possible when cooking. This will speed up cooking time, saving your energy as well as reducing water waste
  • Learn how long your oven takes to pre-heat, so you’re ready to start cooking as soon as it’s up to the right temperature
  • Cut food into smaller pieces so it will cook more quickly
  • Put just enough water in the pan to cover the vegetables
  • Bake with glass or ceramic pans which allow you to set the temperature in the oven lower than the recipe call for
  • Thaw food on metal such as in a stainless steel pan
  • Keep the grease plates under your range burners clean to ensure the most heat is being reflected up
  • Use the appropriate size burner on the range
  • Use a timer so you’re not opening your oven door to often which will cause heat loss and use up more electricity to maintain the correct temperature
  • Consider on investing in a solar oven. These will allow you to cook meals using almost no electricity. As long as there’s sun, these are a great option for everyday cooking or when the power is out
