Finding and Fulfilling Needs

Tags: human unique

Midsummer is wonderful time to stop for a moment and contemplate on what matters most in the world. I checked how I am faring with my goals and pondered if I need to drop some or pick new more well defined goals.

Because my goals are rather habit driven there is not much adjustments necessary. Except for the part of the career which is a big bucket of time in terms of week, month or year.

I work in B2B change consultancy company, however it’s not B2B that matters, but the Human beings in client companies. Wherever there is a human element, there are needs in the play. At most basic level human needs are based on fear. It’s a unique mix of security and change that makes us tick.

Then one level up there is belonging and authenticity, we want to belong, however on the other hand there is the need to be recognized as unique personality.

Last level is fulfillment, we want to do meaningful work. And once we feel fulfilled, we want to give back and share from our own joy and success with others.

Recognizing and satisfying needs at high level is gratifying, even addicting to us. Beautiful things are attractive to us because we find beauty to be promise of gratification of needs at high levels.

In life we tend not to see what we need ourselves. We are too close, too much blinded. Therefore we need other people who can see what we need and get what we need. It’s through service to others that we can help them achieve what they need and through cooperation we also get in the end what we want.

Question that came to me today was, what are the skills and competences that I now should develop to even better recognize needs and then to satisfy those needs more wholly in others?
